Is there a chart somewhere that would tell you what to expect for different calibers?

Well, I've got a '94 made in 1899. It has a 1920's vintage barrel on it. I bet that someone didn't clean it well way back when and the barrel just corroded due to black powder residue. The '20's barrel is still going strong though.

Just have a lot of guns and you will never be in need of a new barrel.

It depends on the make, model, caliber and type of ammo shot as well as how it is maintained... If I had a .416 Barrett, I'd probably plan on a barrel change at 600-800 rounds. It's not only the size of the cartridge but also, if it is an overbored cartridge or not. Some small calibers like 22-250 tend to burn up barrels faster than something like a 45-70.

IIRC, the .220 Swift is pretty hard on barrels due to the high muzzle velocity.

Another variable to consider is barrel design and construction. Modern metalurgy allows some barrels to live longer than they would have with more traditional steels.

I've put about 70,000 rounds thru my G21, and it runs perfect. I did once have a broken trigger pin, but I carry spare part just for such an occasion.

M1 and 03 barrels were considered to have an effective life of 10,000 rounds so you can extrapolate similar type barrels (non chrome lined) with similar cartridges for barrel life for other rifles. The hotter the cartridge the shorter the life. Stainless barrels on average will last longer than standard barrels.

Barrel erosion is caused by the volume and temperature of the hot gases from shooting. The higher the pressure, the volumetrically more gases and the higher temperatures that the barrel sees the faster the bore will erode.

The smaller the bore diameter then the more concentrated the hot gases will be on the metal causing it to erode faster. A 22 bore exposed to 60,000 PSI every shot will wear faster than a 45 caliber bore exposed to 60,000 PSI because proportionally more steel is exposed to the high temperature gases every time.

Saying that more damage is done to rimfire bores by cleaning rods than by shooting.

I've only had my Glock 22 for a year and I'm I have around 1000 round on it. So another 1500 rounds and it's time for a new barrel ?

Crap, you barely need to have cleaned a Glock by 1000 rounds.
