          deff. depends on the round.
my 10/22 has 25k+ rounds through it and it has not broken a sweat.
I'm sure there are some common barrel burner rounds out there.

So the bigger the caliber the shorter the life span ?

Anything more than what you have.

Sort of like when you're driving down the freeway doing about 85, and another guy passes like you're standing still, doing 100. He's the one that is going too fast...

I guess what I'm asking is what's the general life span of a pistol or rifle if it's maintained right ?

It depends on the make, model, caliber and type of ammo shot as well as how it is maintained. Of course, many firearms can be rebuilt and or rebarreled as needed. I have +25K through one of my 1911s and Kimber just reconditioned it for free! When I have more than 2500 rounds through either of my 50BMGs, It will be time to rebarrel them. If I had a .416 Barrett, I'd probably plan on a barrel change at 600-800 rounds. It's not only the size of the cartridge but also, if it is an overbored cartridge or not. Some small calibers like 22-250 tend to burn up barrels faster than something like a 45-70.

I've only had my Glock 22 for a year and I'm I have around 1000 round on it. So another 1500 rounds and it's time for a new barrel ?

No - read what CSACANNONEER wrote. In a handgun you can probably see 20,000 rounds before you need a new barrel and they are much simpler to change out than a rifle barrel.

My barrel is still going strong after 25,000 rounds. IMO,a good 9mm, 40S&W or .45acp should last between 50,000 and 100,000 rounds. A .357 sig, 10mm, 5.7, etc. will last less.

1K through a glock barrel?! Dude don't worry about that thing. My G17 has 30K+ through it. No problems at all. The polygonal rifling that Glock uses for their barrels lends itself to extremly long service life.

The building where Reeds indoor range is located at used to be called National shooting club. They had a factory certified 1,000,000 round count G17 that the factory took back to test. I was told they never had to replace the barrel.

                              How 'bout a 30-30?

Is there a chart somewhere that would tell you what to expect for different calibers?
