    Interested in a HK94 (MP-5 clone)

I think for my next firearms purchase I would like to get a 9mm HK94 (MP-5 clone).
Does anyone know of a good Ca legal clone on the market? I searched but couldn't find a specific answer, just a lot about kits.

I know Atlantic has one for just over $2000, but I dont know how good it is or legality in Ca.

Just seems like way too much money to me.

Quality varies vastly. My Vector clone had nothing but problems for years until I replaced the lower with the real HK part. Now it runs flawlessly. If you can afford it, have one of the builders over on HK Pro.com build you one. Use as many real HK parts as possible.

Especially considering that a real MP5, for Gov/LE agencies who can buy them, only costs about $1300. The clone, with the long barrel, fake can, and low cap mag, just doesn't amount to $2000 worth of satisfaction to me.

I'd love to see a CA legal reintroduction of the H&K SP89 for under $1K though.

Do some research on Zenith MKE rifles. They're due to come out any week now.

A vendor here had pre-orders available for $1500.

That's as close as you can get to a HK94 without paying a small fortune.

Also HK stated it was going to bring back the SP89 but nothing has materialized yet.

Yeah, unfortunately I have to agree. I've always liked MP5's, even when I was a kid and didn't really know what they were. I had a toy one way back in the day and always been fond of them since.

I think once I get the heck out of CA I'm going to SBR myself an MP5 clone. Maybe get one of those trigger things that makes it ultra light and holds it just a hair beyond the reset point for effortless "bumpfire" too.

Perhaps I can make something similar to the "TacCon" trigger but for other guns. It basically uses the action of the bcg flying back to forcefully reset the trigger, so you can "bumpfire" without consciously lifting your finger, since the gun does it for you.

I had a chance to shoot a full auto MP5 when I lived in Ca. (FBI issue)

Talk about a load of fun. That said I saw no point in owning one if its not full auto. I have semi AR pistols that will get the job done for a lot less.

Yeah semi-auto sub guns are kinda lame, but if you're after a particular gun, not just any pistol caliber carbine, then it's hard to not want one, even without the giggle switch.

When I put a "arm brace" on my mini Draco and ar pistols it was night and day and made it a little more worth it. That said no way would I pay 2k for a clone like you said it's just too much.

I really need to get my butt down to my ffl and do some paperwork and then wait and wait some more for it to get approved lol.

I had the real deal in the 80s. Cost me $700.00 in 1986.

I have collected various HK products since the 1980's, including several 94's & SP89's, all produced in Oberndorf. While they are quality pieces that always function perfectly, they are by all standards ergonomic train wrecks. The 94 is a huge weapon for such a small ballistic payload, and the SP89 isn't much better. Original magazines cost a fortune, and on my originals the triggers are typical two-stage heavy military. But if you really want one, as they say, it's your coin.
I have examined a couple of clones, which left much to be desired, but that was a few years ago. Also not sure if the avaliable clones have the correct fluted chambers as do the originals. Some of the PTR's I examined had functional issues as related to their attempt at fluted chambers, so I would look for something that has been proven.
With all the advances in the modern AR platform, with the Sig brace as well, I think the older HK platform takes a place in the museum.
