Picking up brass at the range

For all you reloaders out there, how many pieces of brass do you pickup when at the range? Yesterday, I was shooting my 1911 and only recovered about 50 of the 65 rounds I shot. However, someone shooting in the lane next to me was shooting a Glock 17, and when he left there was a bunch of 9mm on the ground. Would it have been okay to pickup ~15 pieces of 9mm casings? I figured the fifteen pieces of .45 ACP brass I donated to the range would make up for it.

Some ranges have a policy about picking up brass other than your own. It depends on their policy if they have one. Otherwise it's probably more appropriate to only pick up your own brass.

I pick up what I can. I usually ask the RO's first as well. Today I got lucky, and only lost about 10 out of the 100 I brought (45acp).

But what ever is near me that no one has picked up, i take lol

Always best to check range rules. I've even been to ranges that don't want you picking up your own brass, one time trips to those ones. Now I only go to a private range where all brass is fair game. I usually pickup 50+ peices of brass, usually common calibers but I get some .25, .32, and .380 here and there.

Yeah, usually ask the RO's. Sometimes I'll get lucky and they'll let me sweep up the whole firing line (if someone doesn't want their brass) other times, certain ROs will only let me pick up my own

Ask your neighbors if they are saving their brass, depending on their answer you could be coming home with a lot more than you shot. Sometimes they will even collect it and hand it to you or point to where they swept it for you.

Depends. My rifle club has a rule that you need written permission to pick up someone else's brass <24hrs after it hits the ground.

+1 ranges can't take what they don't own.

I like my range rules. You can only pick up your own empty casings.

I like this way, so brass reloaders dont brew any turf wars.

Some ranges I've seen have policy where "once the brass touches the ground it is our property"

I was at Big Shot Range in Reno a few weeks back. I was picking up my brass which caught the attention of one of the staff members. He came in and gave me a plastic bag to put it in
Check back later for a witty comment.

I always ask the nearby shooters if it's OK to pick up theirs when it seems they are not interested.
When they see me picking mine up, some say "take mine too.".

If they look like a serious shooter, I brush theirs back towards their bench.

I usually don't pick up other people's brass, who knows how many times its already been reloaded.
