I haven't purchased a weapon since the late 1970's. Recently my interest is shooting has been rekindled so I did my research to find out the process and try to understand all the laws and requirements. Thinking I had my ducks in a row and searching for a Glock 19, I finally decided to make the purchase.
Calif Drivers license, check. Hand Gun Safety Certificate, check. Vehicle Registration, PG&E Bill, Water bill, Garbage bill and a pocketful of cash, check, check, check.
I get in the car and drive 35 miles from Salinas to Marley's in Watsonville.
They have one Glock 19 in stock. I show the salesman my folder of documents and even he is impressed about how prepared I am. He takes my License, HSC, and Vehicle Registration to make copies and hands me the paperwork to fill out.
Just as I fill in my name and address he comes back with the "Sorry, I can help you". Why?? Because my Driver's license says "Jr." and all my other documents don't say "Jr." My father died over thirty-five years ago so I seldom us the Jr. at the end of my name. Well, it all has to match or no purchase. Now my project is to get Jr. added to my HSC and utility bills. Lesson learned. Keep this in mind if you are a newbie to handgun purchases.
