At APTS, you rent a target stand for $2. If you don't shoot the stand then you get your money back.

As for the clay throwers, they have 6-8 (can't remember exact number) that are lined up horizontally. Each one is 10-15 feet apart. They all pretty much throw straight out with some being a little stronger than others because their arms/springs are stiffer. But they are all about the same. They're definitely not trap because the velocity is slower but they are a heck of a lot of fun.

I usually go there to shoot rifle but almost always spend more time shooting clays. Besides being fun, the proximity of the throwers to each other creates good opportunity to chit chat with everyone else.

Foot release launchers so you can do your own if you are shooting alone or is there staff to launch the clays? I read that they are manual launchers?

All Oaktree has to do is publicly apologize and not do it again, and I would go back. Not sure what their problem is.

The throwers at APTS do NOT have foot pedals. You have to pull the handle by hand.

I almost always shoot there by myself and don't have a problem with the throwers. I have sometimes connected a rope from the handle to my belt loop and pulled the handle that way but most of the time I just release the handle with my support arm. Kinda tough at first by I now prefer it because you have to pull the handle, mount the gun, and then get your shot off. It's a heck of a lot more challenging than standing there like on a trap field, all ready for the shot, and then yelling pull.

As for weekends, it doesn't get that crowded. The steel pistol range sometimes gets 10-15 people on it. The paper pistol range almost always has 5-10 open slots. The rifle range, however, gets crowded. I have never had to wait for a slot to shoot at but I sometimes don't get to shoot at the slot I would prefer. And if you go early you will have most of the place to yourself until 11:00ish.

The problem I had was the address listed when I put it into my gps told me it was like 5 miles BEFORE the actual turn to get there on that canyon road

Apology wouldn't do it for me. I'd only go back if was new ownership I was 100% certain was not related to the old ownership. What they did was unforgivable. I wonder why they still are acting evasive and not apologizing?

Oak tree is a distant memory for me. I've been shooting in kern county since my membership ended and I love it.
