F PayPal, it's time for Google Checkout

    http://checkout.google.com

Don't see anything specifically addressing firearms as being prohibited in their TOS.

Cool beans. Maybe this will be the end of paypal.

2% and .20 per transaction...not bad, especially when compared to PayPal's.

Your completely mis-identifying the purpose of this service.

Its has nothing to do with personal sales, but sales from large stores and/or corporations.

I think its mainly designed to help small buisness but small buisness will get eaten up by large corporation.

Let me explain why this isn't a great idea but an okay idea at this stage:

Your buying from trusted or at least known companies... and instead of giving out your credit card to lets say bestbuy.com you instead give it to google and you pay 2% of the price. So it doesn't do much, but makes it safer to shop with PARTICIPATING companies but if you think about it.... the companies that won't participate are more likely the shady companies you wouldn't shop with in the first place.

Most of the cheaper gunshops are usually large and have at least some documented information on them through forums or seller ratings. Maybe JGsales, coldwarshooters or even impactguns will participate in the google program... but you'll just end up paying more when you could deal with them directly.

It will probably be expanded to person-to-person use soon enough.

Isn't Google's philosophy "Do no evil" or some crap like that?

Pretty broad policy in my opinion, which gives them the ability to ban everything and anything they do not like or agree with.

Unfortunately I see this as the direction many corporations are taking, much to our detriment.

I don't think we should take it personally. It's a fact of life for big companies that due to their deep pockets they frequently get dragged into both civil and criminal lawsuits. Firearms is an area that has high potential liabilities so public companies in particular are going to do what they can to insulate themselves.

Google has been very anti-gun from back when they were praying that yahoo would sign a deal with them.

As someone who interviewed at their Mountain View campus a few months back, I would state that the impression I got of Google's people, was totally in the wacky left-wing dot-commie territory. Plenty of hair-dyed vegans around there. I'd worked at MP3, and I sensed a similar level of monolithic leftism at Google - and I had people fabricating HR complaints trying to get me fired at MP3, specifically over being pro-gun.

...which is why I didn't follow up with the recruiter once they tried to gear-shift me into a less interesting position later on.

Pretty crappy that it's come down to this. Being pro-gun almost anywhere in CA is bad PR. There are a few good people out there though. At one company that I recently worked for, one of the name partners was a huge collector. I never did really get the chance to talk to him. It would have been really akward. "So hey, big boss man... I eh, I hear you like guns too..."
