Low blast muzzle brake choice?

Kineti-tech comes with the sound sleeve, I have one on a 20". Leave it on, quiet, take it off, loud. Depending on who is next to me determines if I use it.
I also have some BRT's, very small and lightweight and Troy Claymores, Levangs, etc. I only use linear brakes because I'm a sound engineer. The Levang seems to be the quietest so far, I can shoot .22LR without plugs with it. Can no do on the others.
Recoil was lessened by using adjustable gas blocks and heavy tungsten powder buffers. There's not much recoil anyway, at least compared to my 7.62x39 upper. That gun is a beast next to .223.Comment

Did you get the one with the side vents or the spiral holes? (BTW, I never figure out the logic on the spiral holes except you don't need to orientate it.) You also mentioned the Levangs, did that help with kick or recoil or you just had it on a 22. This brings me to another question, was that the MP15-22 because I haven't been able to grab the barrel good enough to replace the standard hider? Thanks.Comment

No linear muzzle brake will help with recoil (other than adding weight to your muzzle).
Think of it this way:
If you don't have a brake on the muzzle, all of the gases vent forward.
If you have a linear muzzle brake on your rifle, all of the gases vent forward.
It might, perhaps, maybe diffuse the gases a bit, but ultimately, the same volume of gas is going to move in the same direction and roughly the same velocity as if you did not have a muzzle device at all. It is my opinion/guess that the reason they have any perceived benefit over a target crown for sound or recoil is simply because they add weight and length to the barrel.Last edited by NapalmCheese; 04-29-2015, 12:35 PM.Calguns.net, where everyone responding to your post is a Navy Force Delta Recon 6 Sniperator.Comment

I noticed that you lose the compensator function anytime you use a solid sleeve over the comp. Muzzle rise is less because comp+sleeve makes rifle heavier at muzzle end.
The angled back side port comps are designed for rapid shots at 3Gun matches. If you can't rapid fire at the shooting range you go to, then it's only for show. A more reasonably priced and effective alternative is the NIghtbrake. Concussion is less from the sides than the typical large side chamber comps.

.Thanks for all your ideas! Boy, it gets cheaper and cheaper. Tough decisions. Maltese Falcon, I like yours also cause it so low profile, sleek and looks of quality. Caseless, you found an even cheaper sleeve version! I agree with what you said about the weight and like to add my 2 cents also in that the pressure is reduced (spread out through the holes and/or extends the barrel an extra 2 inches) by the time it truly exits the gun, so there is less kick.I noticed that you lose the compensator function anytime you use a solid sleeve over the comp. Muzzle rise is less because comp+sleeve makes rifle heavier at muzzle end.

Try lightening up the buffer and go the other direction if you have an adjustable gas block. Use something like a JP LMOS buffer even without the LMOS BCG, and see how it feels. Makes a .223 feel like a kitten punch, and .308 like a .223.Comment

This. I've shot a match next to a guy shooting a .338LM with a brake. Your neighbors will get over it.Originally posted by fighterpilot562Damn it man! We could have got drunk, called a taxi and drop by Kest house with a mega phone.Comment

Best combo Brake/FH with less blast?
Precision Armament AFAB mini, and theiur new EFAB unit.
I've tested the AFAB. It has similar braking to a battlecomp, but less blast and better flash hiding qualities. The EFAB is supposed to be even better.
It's a no-go for featureless builds though.

To start, thank you for not being selfish and aware of your neighboring shooters.
That said just try to find empty lanes. Cause the point of a brake is to use the blast to compensate. I'm going to guess phshsics is your enemy here.
Maybe find one that aims forward more. Maybe a comp/flash hider rather than a brake? Brakes are a bit over kill for the AR platform unless your seriously trying to shave fractions of seconds off your comp times.
Normal use its tacticool.Comment

I might end up buying the dragon head cause it is so sleek (coolness factor and good reviews) and one of those sleeve ones.
