I think it is gougy because it is still on list and available. Also SAE is also available if you must have an off list DA revolver. Just be patient and search a little and save money. When I bought mine the dealer did not even seem to notice or care that he had no lock versions. I just double checked I'd be getting that exact gun. He even had one extra one left. I bought it at a large gun show also on Sunday. So seems not many people noticed or cared it was a NIB no lock CA approved 642.

Keep looking I've seen the SKU 103810 for less than $400. No lock.

I'll probably be selling a 442 prelock on here eventually.

Thanks again for all the info, you guys were a lot of help and saved me from over spending by thinking the no locks were still rare. Seems like S&W is making another run at it and there's a lot of shops that offer them now. Now I'm considering the 442 because I like black guns but I've had one in the past and kinda want something a little different. I'm 90% sure I'll be going with the 642 but we'll see lol.

642 is a lot heavier, right? They carry and shoot differently. Don't choose because of color, lol.

642 and 442 should weigh the same. They both have alloy frames. The 640 is a steel frame and would weigh more.

Yes the only difference between the 642 and 442 is the color.
