Can I still buy one of these here in California new without the lock? I'm in the market for one and came across a never fired one with no lock. The only problem is the guy wants $600 firm. I know the ones with the lock run around $450 new. I'm just wondering how rare they are and if that's why the price is marked up. Any info is appreciated thanks.

With no lock I Swan?Comment

Like I stated in my post yes with no lock. You might want to look in to this don't let him fleece you. I was surprised myself was on list and it is one of the few revolvers S&W has sold since the lock started without a lock.
Some of the reissues of the centennials that had the grip safety also did not have a lock. Personally I will not own a S&W with a lock I'd maybe make an exception for a 460 or the 38super N frame that is now out of production.Comment

Thanks for the info. I'll pass on it and look around for one at a shop here around town.Comment

New non lock Smith and Wesson revolvers are really hard to track down. When you do they usually charge more for them because that's the model everyone wants. Do I think 150 extra is gouging? Compared to some of the people in CG market place selling VP9's, gen 4 Glocks and the new Glock 43 hardly.Originally posted by beccibooWhy make it clear when there is an agency that can make up and enforce their own laws? Its one of those things where you need to make the personal decision as to whether you want to be right or free. Is it worth it to you?

I think the I-lock issue is blown way out of proportion. The actual documented instances of unintentional engagement seem to be very few. I don't use revolvers for CCW (plenty of semi's for that). What many complaints boil down to is aestetics (the hole on the side of the frame) and principle (the whole Clinton thing). I have never had any functional issue result from it, nor do I actually know anyone who has. They are still great wheel guns even with the lock. IDK, maybe it's just me, but I don't think it's a big deal.sigpicComment

I bought a 442 a few years back and on my first shot the gun broke on me. The cylinder wouldn't budge and the trigger wouldn't reset. Took it back to the shop I had just bought it from and they said it's not their problem for me to send it back to S&W. I was shocked with the customer service from that shop and that was the last penny they would ever see from me. Anyway back to the subject S&W fixed the revolver for me and I never had anymore issues with it. I really liked it but didn't trust the lock with my life so I sold it. I want another one but prefer it without the lock so that's what I'm looking for. I've called a few shops around town and 3 of them told me I couldn't get it if I wasn't Leo but one shop told me they have one for me for $499 so I'm gonna go buy it hopefully tomorrow.Comment

Get the Pro model, it's about $10 more the than regular, no lock and cut for moon clips. Sku #178042, it's on the roster.Never initiate force against another. That's the one I'm getting rromeo. So far I've found 2 shops and the cheapest one I found is $485. I'm still looking though I'll call around some more tomorrow morning. Anybody in the Fresno area who knows where to get a better deal?Comment
