    Giving up on Sig

So I have been a loyal, sometimes rabid, Sig fanboy for a long time but I am having to face facts and admit that their handguns are not up par.

First, a list of all the Sigs I have owned. I currently still own:
    Sig 220 X6
Sig 226 X5 Entry (only one thats never given me problems but its back in TX and has a very low round count)

    Sigs I have sold:
    Sig 220 SuperMatch
    Sig 220 Compact SAO
    Sig 938

Of the 3 that I sold, the SuperMatch was gorgeous but I had maybe 100 rounds through it so I can't say how reliable it was in the long term. For the few rounds I put through it, it was fine though.
The Compact SAO had some issues returning to battery and even light primer strikes.
The 938 refused to return to battery often, didnt cycle HP's reliably and the real scary thing, one time I drew it and flicked the safety off and yet it remained engaged. My buddy and 2 range employees couldn't help me figure out why the trigger wasn't working so I gave up and just moved to another gun. An hour later I drew the Sig again and the safety flicked on and off just fine (though the gun still had all of its other quirks and PITA's).

Based on my history I had decided that production line Sigs were to be avoided but that Sig custom shop guns could be trusted. And my two X series Sigs are both great, never an issue with either gun. However, I am finding my Sig 220 mags giving me a lot of issues lately, namely that I can't get an 8th round in 5 of my 6 mags. No its not a finger/thumb strength issue (I use a speedloader). Something is causing them to jam on the 7th round and for that top round of the 7 to be a real pain to unload as well.

Im almost ready to sell my X6 and be done with the 220 platform entirely at this point. I cant believe Im saying this as Ive tried so hard to love my Sigs but, Im sticking to my glocks and my LB 1911 from here on out. (Might try a CZ97 if I ever find one)

Just felt like ranting/*****ing/moaning. You guys can take it from here

My Sig 220s never gave me any problems. I've had three. I've trusted my life to two of them, and one of them everyday for 18 months. Not one hiccup.

Found your problem. You brought your guns to Kommifornia when you should have kept them in the free state of Texas. Guns mysteriously stop working and lose magazine sizes amongst a slew of other downgrades when they are in this stupid state.

Life is short, sell them & get what you want and enjoy life!. That's what we (my wife and I) did, sold our polymers & snubby and bought a dozen of Sig. Oh! and S&W 686+.

              OP:

Interesting that you have had this experience. I have taken two handgun training courses and had three different Sig pistols break down on me. I also have several friends who have them and have experienced reliability issues. I, for one, will not ever own a Sig. It's a shame, I think have some nicely designed and executed pistols but if the reliability is suspect, why would I ever own one? While it is not my favorite pistol, my carry Shield 9mm has had zero issues in the 2,500 rounds I have put through it. Not one FTF, FTE, not one mechanical issue. My Ruger P95DC, SR22, my Springfield 1911-A1 Loaded, those are all of the modern pistols I own and none have ever experienced a FTF, FTE or mechanical breakdown. Even my C&R guns have been remarkably reliable and some of them are pushing 70-80 years old.

As a plinker or target shooter, breakdowns are a pain. As a homeowner and CCW carrier, why would I ever trust my life or my family's life to a pistol that may or may not work reliably? Time to move on for you.

Interesting problems you are having. I only own a SP2022 but have probably put 5k rds of my reloads through the gun and never had a problem. Good luck on your next buy!

For what it's worth, I own over twenty SiG's, all classic P series ( P220, P225, P226, P228) most all made in Germany. I own a P226mk25 that I just replaced the recoil spring after +/- 6000 flawless rounds in the last two years. I still own my first P226 that I bought new in 1992. In all I have probably over 75,000 rounds fired thru my SiG's over the years I have had only one stoppage / malfunction other than shooting dry; a broken extractor in a 1981 mfg P220 E Just last year.

The New SiG's, under the Cohen management team where there is a model and variation for everyone on the planet, have IMHO, declined in quality from the original German and early American production

I had a few issues with my Shield when it was new but after a short break-in period Ive had no issues since. Its also much MUCH nicer with the Apex trigger, now I actually enjoy my Shield

I've heard this from numerous Sig fans even. QC issues too. Aren't ones stamped "West Germany" the ones everyone wants?

                            I've owned:

                            Glock 19
                            Glock 17
                            P226 Mk25
                            P229 40SW Police trade-in
                            CZ75 SP01
                            USP45
                            VP9

Only one that gave me trouble is the Glock 19(follwergate/extractorgate) and those are $3 fixes. Why would you keep buying Sigs if they consistently gave you trouble?

I own a W.German P230, and a P238 and a P938. I have never had an issue with any of the guns, and with the P238 and P938 have run all different types of ammo through them. I will not carry a gun that has issues, and carry my P938 the most.
