This for sure. If the Mobil 1 synthetic oil I use can withstand the shear forces of a car engine bearing rotating at several thousand rpms and the heat from internal combustion of gasoline, it will work fine on my guns. I don't see why we should pay the prices some gun lube manufacturers are asking, just because they put it in a bottle with the words "gun oil" on it.

It can be a little difficult to find, but for handguns, give Eezox a try...
It's a dry lube that keeps your gun moving smoothly without attracting dust.

5-W30 Synthetic motor oil. Left over on from the oil changes on my wife's car. The stuff works great, doesn't dry out, stays in place well, and doesn't take a ton to work well. The gun industry takes isn't lubes from other industries anyway.

Rem oil and/or Hoppe's #9 oil for the AR and pistols, Shooters Choice synthetic grease for the AK.

Slip 2K EWL, EWL 30 wt. and EWL grease. All work great. I also use their 710 degreaser to clean off petrolium based lubes and grease. The green carbon killer works better than Hopp's. All non-toxic, no smell. Made here in California.

Zero issues with tough to work guns like AR-15 7.5" pistols and 7.62x39 uppers. All work perfect from day one. Someday I'll try Fireclean, but it is very expensive.

I'm down with the motor oil deal, but anybody who uses used oil out of their car is cheap and just stupid. Sorry. Why use oil with micro metal shavings and reduced viscosity? Buy a new quart for 6 bucks.

I like frog lube but the price of that stuff has gotten out of site. so back to CLP & tetra grease for me.

Instructions says to get rid of old lube before applying frog lube. I've used rubbing alcohol and M-Pro 7.

Agreed on Mobile 1 everywhere with Tetra grease on sliding surfaces.

Add Renaissance wax to protect slides on carry guns from salt and holster wear.

Stainless revolvers get an occasional Flitz cloth in the chambers and cylinder face to clean the carbon.

They stay wet in the safe and while firing. Just wipe clean and relube, except for gas rings and chambers. Guns look like new inside and out.

Slip 720 de-greaser will work great in stripping old lubes off. Once cleaned, try EWL and you will forget about track-lubes and other minty brews.

Brake Cleaner worked for me.
