This +1. Plus you get to work the bolt, how cool is that?!

Build your own AR-22. That way you'll be used to the platform when you upgrade to an "EBR".
      Sorry, not sorry.

This. I've owned a 10/22 for 20 years and love it but when Big5 ran a deal on the 795 for $140.00 a few years ago I couldn't pass it up. I figured I'd need another .22 for my kids to shoot sooner or later. Yeah the stocks on the 795 aren't as nice to look at as the wood or laminate wood on the 10/22 but the over all quality of the 795 is very good for the price. The barrel on the 795 is a nice medium contour and mine shoots just as good if not better then my 10/22. Mags are pretty cheap and available for the 795, last I checked my Big5 even had some for sale. One of the features I love about the 795 that the 10/22 doesn't come from the factory with is a last round bolt hold open. Even though Ruger claims it's safe to occasionally dry fire 10/22 I still prefer a last round bolt hold open. If you want a semi auto .22 and plan to accessorizes the heck out of it get the 10/22. If you just want something accurate and reliable to plink around with get a 795, with the money you save you can buy a decent case and a few boxes of ammo, if you're lucky since .22 is still somewhat hard to find.

Sig Sauer 522. Much better quality than M&P 15-22. Plus it's really TACTICOOL

Nothing wrong with starting with a bolt 22lr.
Ruger makes one that uses the same magazine as their 10/22.

You should replace that stock with the proper Swiss folding stock.

Just get an AR and be done with it.

                      If vou're smart I'd get a .22 that cycles .22 short/long & long rifle. Discuss...

That's one advantage. The main advantage is learning how to shoot and a good bolt does that better than anything else. You will also learn about ammo selection and it's importance.

Turners has the Marlin model 60 on sale this week for 160.00. They also have the Henry H001 for 250.00.

I'd opt for the Henry all day long. Its a well built gun, easy to use and very accurate.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

I like that this one is adjustable though.

if your set on 22lr, then I'd get a 10/22.

                              Only reason I don't own my own is I have a nice 22lr target pistol.... if I didn't; I'd buy a 10/22 myself.
