    Vacation Rental - Firearm Prohibition

I just received a rental agreement for a vacation rental in the Village area of June Lake California. My family has been vacationing there for over 60 years. I've never seen anything like this before. There is a section in the agreement labeled "ZERO TOLERANCE."

    Here's how it reads:
ZERO TOLERANCE: Guests and the members of his party shall
not use or permit to be brought into the property, any illegal controlled
substances, firearms, or items hazardous to persons or property.
In addition, smoking is not allowed inside the Cabin. It is a NON
    -SMOKING home.

I've never seen anything like this before. Has anyone else run into this issue? We've been hunting and fishing here for decades. I'm quite shocked to see this type of clause. Once I have spoken with the property manager, I will report back here as to why they would have such a prohibition in their rental agreement.

I would read it as prohibiting illegal firearms. As long as the gun is legal I would not worry too much!
If you do ask and they say no firearms at all, you have a choice to make.

That sucks, items hazardous to person/property? Fat people/old people/young people/ugly people/stupid people/horny people...... Their place their rules. Own it and tell the rest of the world to pound sand. Wait this California it's never yours. Sounds like liability concerns. Bet there's a increase in rent.

Might be time to reconsider your vacation rental home choice.

Several cabins I've rented up there have that clause..I just blow it off and keep discreet with my guns.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

Give them a Yelp review that the place was disrespectful to your families beliefs and move on
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

As large rentals (for 10 people) are hard to come by, I've already secured a different place. I still want an answer from them though.

I initially read it as "illegal firearms," but that would cause it to read "illegal items hazardous to persons or property" as well, and I don't believe that is the intent.

Make sure you don't bring any forks, knives, fatty foods, or sugar/sugar substitutes...since all of those items can be hazardous.

I would also let them specifically why you won't be patronizing their establishment any longer.

And I remember going to June lake as a child. It was a beautiful and relaxing place to vacation. I hope your secondary choice of vacation rentals is equally pleasing in this regard.

I just looked back at the last 5 years of vacation rental agreements for different properties in the same area. None of them have this clause, or anything even close to it.

I would read this is no guns at all. Meaning... zero.

Really? IF you rented your place, would you want people just "blowing" off your rules. What if "blowing" off their rules leads to an accident and it comes back to haunt them?

Really? Negatively review them for not liking what you like? So they cannot be "disrespectful to your families beliefs" but you can be "disrespectful to their families beliefs"? Jeeez...

come on man, there is a HUGE difference between those and a weapon. You know better than this.

OP just rent elsewhere and move on. We just looked at renting a place in Tahoe off AirBNB (used them dozens of times all over the world) and we read a policy we did not like... we moved on. Done. It's their call, their home, respect it.

Yeah, I get that. Also has to suck if you've been renting the same place for years, almost like home in a way. Sometimes life throws crappy choices at us. I'd want an answer too though.

Everything in the statement about illegal drugs and firearms sounds, as has already been said, like standard insurance clause stuff. I wouldn't see that as being disrespectful to their beliefs, they are likely just complying to cover their butts. The NO SMOKING bit though, THAT sounds more like someone's personnel beliefs. More of the anti-smoking propaganda being shoved down your throat, especially the "THIS IS A NO SMOKING HOUSE" part. No, I don't smoke.
