I've only been to one of the private ranges there while I took my CCW course. I really need to check out the public range. I have been to Big Shot Range which is an indoor range in Reno. It's very nice and they rent full autos.

A long way from where Deadon lives but there is also a public range in Carson City. It is free but there are no range masters or facilities like bathrooms. I haven't been but it gets many positive reviews.
Check back later for a witty comment.

I can shoot 5 miles from my house for free. Ive been going there once a week or so. We took a drive out to the lake and saw this range. I may go to the free spot now and then but 8.00 and 15 more min I can shoot long range and not deal with the crazies.

Its pretty much a free for all at the free spot. No one calls for a clear and guys just walk down range like its nothing!

Have you checked it against the Washoe County Congested Area Map? It looks like certain sections of Eagle Canyon Rd would be legal. I've never been out there but might check it out. We're out near UNR on a pretty regular basis and Spanish Springs is a little closer and less rigid than a formal range like the county park. Of course, it's less rigid than a formal range

It's a great range but, the winds there can be tough to shoot in. I've seen the wind flags on the 1000 yard range blowing towards each other. I've also seen one +500' tall dust devil come through. But, other than the interesting and challenging winds, it's a great place!

Thats where Ive been shooting. They have a area about a mile past teh high school. Its great during the week but forget the weekends! You could be shooting and the guy RIGHT NEXT to you decides hes going to go check targets. Im like woah dude! Thats how they roll there its crazy!

As for the winds yeah its windy here but I was banging that 500 yard steel no problem! I bet it will get harder at 1000 though. It should make me a better shooter.

Looks great! Don't shoot the easy targets.

No pictures but a little south is the Douglas County range goes out 300 yards. About 5 min from my Nevada house and $2.00 per carload a day.

But not as hot as Sac. It cools down nice here in the evening too.
