Need help buying a 1919a4

good advice thanks.. this one is a .308 which is what i want...

i believe the one in the picture shows it has a tripod and pintle mount...

if me and the LGS make a deal, it is a sale from a FFL and not a PPT so id assume if the gun results in catastrophic failure, i can take it back and deal with the LGS (who is a good Person to deal with)

1919's are only going up in price, kits are are hard to come by now.

Owning a 1919 and using a 1919 are two different things. The gun is complicated and can be damaged or cause damage if operated improperly. For example a 1919 owner was recently badly injured when the captive driving spring and rod launched from the bolt after it was removed from the gun by the user and struck him in the head.

Improper headspace can blow the top cover off your weapon. Improper cartridge length will lead to frustrating failures to feed. Unfamiliarity with the operating cycle of the gun can leave a round in the chamber when you think it is empty.

By all means get one but read up and learn before you fire it the first time. The 1919 board is an excellent source of information.

I've been a 1919 owner for several years and I am still learning the gun and its moods. I thought that the 1919 would be a snap for me since I've used the M60 a lot in the Army. The guns are nothing the same. Add to that each 1919 builder seems to have a different idiosyncrasy built into his gun which adds something different than the other builds.

I've found that most folks enjoy shooting mine with surplus German 7.62 blanks. The gun makes just as much noise as with ball but for only a couple pennies a trigger squeeze.

If you are in or around the valley I'd be happy to show you around mine at the range sometime and give some pointers.

If you decide to go the kit route I have both a registered and 80% side plate that need a new home. You can expect to drop another grand or so for a nice tripod, spare parts, links, linker and lots of ammo! But it is worth it.

Well I traded my scar 17 for a 1919a4 on tripod and pintle .. Even trade..

It's an allied armament tht shoots well and accepts metal links ..

When I bought my 1919 from EBR Works, he told me shooting a 'normal' gun vs shooting a 1919 was a little like the difference between piloting a boat with an outboard motor vs operating a steam ship
