I did not say STI is assembled in the PI. If you look again I said the; "STI Spartan is assembled by STI". I also did not make a blanket statement to the effect that STI and RIA are the same. What I said is; "Rock Islands and the STI Spartan are made by Armscor".
Now, while not all STI's may be viewed as the "Cat's Meow", they are still viewed with Higher regard than most Springfields, minus the TRP Operator, and other majorly expensive ones. If STI values their reputation why would they even jeopardize one bit of it even with a lower level pistol like the Spartan, by working with Armscor?
About the Investment Cast thing... That's just like Billet vs Forged, Milled vs Stamped, Cast vs Forged, etc...
To that point I say, Buy what makes you sleep well at night. Most folks on this board don't abuse their guns that much anyways.

Instead of wasting my time on the internet, I'd call up Springfield and tell them the problem. They will e-mail you a pre-paid label and in 2-3 weeks you will have a brand new slide. I have used Springfield's customer service a few times over the past 20 years and they have always stood 100% behind their products, even when I was NOT the original owner.

Regarding Brazilian made products. Brazil is more than capable of producing firearms that are as good as anything produced in Europe or the US. Imbel (who makes the parts/guns for Springfield) is a well respected firearms company and has produced some of the finest FALs ever. Think about this, many of the commercial aircraft that you all fly on every day are made in Brazil, and if they can put a good airplane together, they can certainly build a good gun.

Boeings are made in Washington State.

Well, even that is now debatable as the new 787 is only assembled in Washington as almost all of the major sub assemblies are outsourced, and most of them to foreign countries. Much of the 767 and 777 is also made by other countries, not all of them 1st world.

But there are other airplane manufacturers than Boeing. I'm talking about Embraer, the worlds 3rd largest commercial airframe manufacturer.
