What do you shoot at the range?

Normally it's either steel (at sunnyvale) or cans and plastic bottles (at los altos).
I only shoot at paper to check a zero but that's it - shooting at paper all the time is just plain boring!

There's nothing like a fruit shoot...and if you get hungry you can eat your targets. Also, biodegradable.

Yah but to me so is steel and bottles, once you shoot in open land you wont want to shoot at a range again unless zeroing, I like to go up to Pyramid Lake just past Reno with the family and friends and shoot up there, open freedom you'll feel, just gotta practice safety, I might go to a range to practice keeping up my handgun skills at distance, @ Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club, (Los Altos not to fond of the RO's attitudes) Metclaf is a lot better in my opinion than Los Altos

Oh and I really want to get into competitive shooting such as IPSC, mainly 3gun by this summer, I've been preparing with buying equipment for that and practicing draws and technique etc. I didn't know that Richmond Rod and Gun has a 3 gun match like every weekend till about a few months ago, you should check it out, I'm just confused about what they want you to do to get started before a first match

I prefer to shoot steel targets. The ringing of steel is much more satisfying than a hole in a paper target to me.

I think you should have included clay targets, it is a popular for people who shoot trap, skeet, sporting clay or 5 stand.

I shoot paper and tin/plastic containers when shooting my AR-15 or pistol at Los Altos. But most of the time I shoot trap so it'll be clay target for me.

My local shootin' spot is essentially an unofficial dumping ground of various junk. It's a shame, but hey - free targets. It is interesting to see how various calibers affect various surfaces and materials and I do try and make it a point to haul out a load of trash when I leave. So I guess to answer your poll, "all of the above."

Where is the famous bowling pins on the list, cheap, last a long time, reactive. Also onions are good as they explode nicely with a 223 round.

Isn't that the lake some of us fly fisher guys dream about? I seem to recall seeing pictures of guys standing on latters just off shore to gain a casting advantage...

I'm not going to google it..The species name starts with an L ... its a cutthroat trout...
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

I like to shoot bowling pins and skeet when I shoot outdoors , some spoiled fruits or veggies from time to time , I get that stuff out of dumpsters at the local market .

                      Paper, cardboard, and steel.

Honestly, it annoys me when people shoot fruits at the range. Sometimes at WEGC, I'll get into one of the private bays, and find random fruit fragments (e.g. oranges, watermelons, cantaloupe). Yes, they will bio degrade, but they attract bugs, and it's terrible in the summer when flies start swarming the bay.

Do 4 legged varmints under three inches high at the shoulder wandering around under the target stands in the impact area count?

I shoot mostly paper at the local indoor range. But when I get out to the desert I enjoy plinking at golf balls and spent shotgun shells. Soda cans are also fun.

                            Steel outdoors and paper indoors
The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!

In my experience the options should read:

                              The Floor
                              The Wall
                              The Target Hanger
                              The Ceiling
