Vicodin is some nasty stuff. My doctor presribed some for me after I fell of a roof last year, I took one (it made the pain go away) but the hang over was so bad I thought I was better off with the pain

Rule 1: Don't piss off the cops unless you want them pissed off at you. This is really a simple concept but I'm surprised at how many people forget the Golden Rule.

In this case, whether the officers have PC to examine the contents of the safe depend on the search warrant's content. If, for example, the search warrant is for stolen motorcycles then they can't go into the safe. If, however, the search warrant is for something smaller than a breadbox then the safe is fair game. In this case it seems like the safe was the target of the warrant since the girlfriend mentioned money and drugs in the safe.

If the officers have a valid reason for opening the safe and you refuse, expect the safe will get destroyed. Playing refusal games and saying "Ok, I'll open the safe" once a locksmith arrives will likely result in a "Sorry, too late" response. The locksmith will pry open the safe and you won't get reimbursed for a new one. Is that really the route you want to go?

Depends upon the injury and the doctor. I get my pain meds from the VA in bottles of 90 at a time. I get them every two months. I used to get bottles of 180 Vicodin. Since I use them "as needed" at night for herniated discs in my neck, I sometimes have two or three bottles if I am having less pain during a particular timeframe. I also like the fact that if something happens where the SHTF and I can't get any more for a while, I have enough to last me for a while at least.

So he could very easily have had a couple of bottles.

On Vicodin- I don't know how anyone can get addicted to the stuff. The doc prescribed me some when I had a kidney stone- I took one pill only. It made me want to puke so bad, I'd rather just have the pain! In fact, I don't remember if it stopped the pain, I was kind of busy trying not to hurl at the time

                  -Dave
Puking is what that stuff makes you do. Opiates shut down your digestive system and your body naturally reacts by making you expel the contents of your stomach. Junkies don't need to eat a lot and the stomach acid coming back up removes the finish of their teeth. Junkies just get used to the puking just like cigarette smokers get used to coughing up tarry black wads of phlegm in the morning. If you aren't careful and don't dutifully go throw up in the toilet right after taking junk, you doze off and choke to death on your own vomit.

That's how runway fashion models and actresses stay so thin: They dope up, the drugs take effect, they barf in the toilet, then they lay in bed all day wasting away like Winona Ryder until it's time to get up and make $40,000 for one day's work shooting the cover of Vogue magazine. Wash, rinse, repeat, until they're too strung out that they can't get work anymore and turn into an amoral scuzzball that shoplifts lingerie at the Wilshire Galleria.

Ever seen those fashion models that are so thin that they look like Auschwitz survivors? First of all, they're sixteen years old, and second they hang around with the fashion set where there's no shortage of prescription opoids for the taking. They're on so much dope and need so little nourishment that they can live on an apple slice and an almond all week before they eventually lose their minds and jump out the thirty-third floor window of some swanky NYC apartment house.

About 2 years ago, a friend of mine who is a federal LEO had made a "gentlemen's agreement" and sold an auto AK47 to another so-called friend. Well, this so-called friend had the local PD over his house for a domestic violence call. The girlfriend told the officers about the AK and it was confiscated and he was arrested.

The so-called friend then spilled the beans on who he purchased the AK from and made a deal with the prosecutor. My LEO friend then receives an ATF visit to his home with a search warrant. He was told that he either gives up the combo or they will haul away his safe (not bolted down). He ended up opening it. They confiscated the full-auto firearms from the safe but they were returned to his agency as they were determined to be his legally-issued agency firearms. Unfortunately, his LEO career ended.

150 vicodin is nothing.... I have a friend who had a horrible back injury who wound up getting 300 at a time... all the other painkillers he tried would make him nauseous and he'd spend all day throwing up. IIRC he got the prescription filled every month but it might have been every three months..

If he didn't have the painkillers he basicly had to spend all day in the bathtub.

chronic pain is a horrible thing.

vicodin is a very low level painkiller, compared to the other stuff out there.

I know a Vietnam vet who gets 250 vicodin per month because of his legs (box mine back in 71 and 3 ak rounds in his back) the VA sends him several months worth of drugs at a time... I've seen the packages when he unwrapped them.. It looks like a pharmacy.

He prefers it to the morphine because he can't eat when he is on the morphine and looses too much weight.

When I had my accident I had 120 vicodin and 60 percasets along with some other stuff all perscribed within one month.... it sucked trying to find something that worked.... but having a ton of pills didn't make me a drugdealer.

eventually nothing wound up working and I just got used to the constant pain.

And as far as WHY you'd lock up drugs... well GEE lemme think... if people know you have chronic pain, then they can guess you take something for it.. and last I checked drugs were a prime motivator for robbery.

The last thing you want is to have to explain to your doctor that your prescription was stolen... that kind of things throws up huge red flags and goes in your medical file forever.

                        Don't talk to cops

Say "I want to speak to my lawyer", then shut up.

The cost of a safe is trivial in the scheme of things.

Whether or not you believe your safe contains anything that might be construed as contraband, if the police are at your house executing a search warrant, you should be calling the best defense attorney you can afford, not voluntarily opening your safe to keep it from being damaged. The cost of replacing a safe is likely to be dwarfed by your legal fees, especially if you're charged with anything as a result of the search.

150 vicodin pills, $1,000 cash, a build kit for a semi-auto rifle and a general assortment of otherwise legal and properly stored firearms...yea, it's gonna take some intense juju to get outta this one. Seriously, put yourself in the LEO's shoes. You go into the house already suspicious and you find all those things in a safe? What would you think right off the bat? Not saying the man is guilty of anything, but that is one helluva convicting image raht thur. Unfortunately, image is a very large percentage of function in today's society. Definitely retain a lawyer if it's not done already.

Were any of the parts of his rifle kit illegal in CA? Despite what all this appears to be, if he truly does have a prescription for the drugs and all the rifle components are CA-legal then he should be just fine working with a lawyer who will be able to prove all that.
