Even had to ID the pistol I had holstered ( it has custom grips and is not instantly identifiable.) IMO I'm being harassed on a regular basis. My right to privacy is null and void, if I can not drive a 100 miles to open desert and be left alone by LEO. The dang drone flying overhead is more than enough. But it never ends as my car is legally lo-jacked by unknown LEOs , my phone is bugged , my travel is logged, and my every electronic communication are recorded. Glad the jackbooted inspector smiled and was courteous to you. Just like the Nazis handing out towels for the "showers".

Go to a different spot. I go all the time. Soemtimes twice in one week. And in four years I've spoken to one ranger. But I'm always there on weekdays when it's calm. Weekend might be a different story.

That BLM ranger has a Raptor as his work truck? Wow. I would think a 4WD fleet vehicle was standard issue for BLM, not a Raptor.

Nice day indeed! Might wanna upgrade your umbrella with foldable 8X8 or 10X10 for easy set up and big enough to get a great shade.

Ranger Funk is a stand up guy. Ran into him a couple if times on Otay Mountain Perfect example of respect gets respect going both ways. Glad to hear his replacement might have learned something from him.

Looking forward to making contact with Ranger Howe in the near future.

Yeah, I agree. Before I met Ranger Funk I had heard lots of stories/internet fodder about him being this or that, and having a chip on his shoulder.
As is usually the case with stories like this, the ones that have had run-ins with the "Jerk Ranger" probably brought it on themselves with their actions &/or attitude, and got spanked for it. So of course it's because "He's a jerk!"

I have found Ranger Funk to be a decent guy, who was always out there working hard cleaning up the mess that irresponsible shooters left behind, even down to raking up little pieces of clays and all the .22's that get left 'cuz people are too lazy to pick them up.

The first time I met him we talked for 45 minutes or so while we cleaned and when I asked him where the other/better spots were, he drew me a nice little map and told me the pros & cons of each. "This one's really only pistol distances, but it's got shade... This one's got the most distance, but you gotta' get there early..."

The first time I shot my SKS, he "Caught" me with ammo I honestly thought was okay but turned out to be bi-metal jacket, but he just educated me on brands to avoid and which ones were GTG. He said that if he's had already the discussion before and he catches people doing something when he knows they know better, then he'll ticket them. If he hasn't and feels they just don't know any better he'd rather educate.

I remember him asking me a couple of questions, and when I told him the answer he said "Yeah, I know. I was watching you for about twenty minutes from up on the ridge before I came down, I just wanted to see if you'd tell me the truth."

Ranger Funk, should you happen to read this, thanks for your service out there and I wish you well in your future endeavors.

I dunno'... If he gets to take the Raptor out to Glamis he'd probably have a pretty good time. Ranger Howe did tell me he liked the work truck so much he bought one for himself.

Ranger Funk is a good dude. Ran into him out there shooting and 4wheeling on a couple occasions. He does his job well, and I'm glad to hear his replacement is like-minded.
