    Anyone remember Polytech Firearms?

I came across an advertisement for their AKs in an old gun magazine I have, and they seem to be quite expensive for the few you can find now.

    What's the deal with them?

They made the best semi-auto AKs ever available in the USA.

They were then banned from importation into the USA in 1993 by the Clinton Administration.

The current price for them reflects their quality and rarity.

Polytech and NORINCO are both just brand names.

            Different companies.

PolyTech = China Poly Group (created by the Chinese Military)

Norinco = China North Industries (created by the Chinese Government)

I've heard that the Polytech M-14S was a good gun. It apparently needed a few things corrected, but the receiver was supposedly forged and machined to a fine tolerance.

Exactly, some M14S guns had bolts that were not heat treated to the proper hardness. However, the receivers are forged and of USGI spec hardness, as are the op rods. The barrels are quite good too.

                      I'd take (and I have taken) PolyTech m14's v. Springfield's M1A's anytime.

I sold an unfired RAW milled AK for $3k. Grandpa probably paid $250 for it during the Clinton 1.0.....

Polytech isn't on the flow chart, but Poly Technologies is. Does the name on the receiver have to match the chart exactly to be banned?

Genuine real Chinese AK's for around $275-350 ish, I remember - and cringe that Pops didn't buy more.
