    What's going on with ammo?

I get the panic buying for the steel core 223/5.56 cartridges, but it seems that everything is selling out in all calibers of handguns too. I have watched supply just disappear at a rate I haven't seen before. Is anyone noticing this or is it just my go to sources selling through all of the sudden?

Maybe all the "THEY ARE COMING FOR YOUR AMMO" e-mails and letters and postcards I've been getting from the NRA have something to do with it.

I dunno but a call it a panic & it is one, at least to you anyway. Just like calling an AR an assault rifle. Two words I don't use, ammo PANIC & assault rifle. Welcome to the Hillary admin. stock up while you still can.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

Me thinks when these hoarders/panic buyers CC are maxed out, it'll be for sale here & other places for better $$ as they'll be fighting for your dollars to get from under the burden of debt, when the shelves are full once again.

Will still buy online then, as now.

is it the NRA or newsmax?

The NRA stuff I've seen seems accurate.

but anyway; we do have the wisper or grapevine effect problem someone mentioned above. Even when person A gets accurate info from a valid source; by the time it gets to person D its pretty distorted.

We also have some conservative sources overblowing it / spreading fud.

                  That's funny.....but true..^^^^

Add in all the other Gun Forums, YouTube and even Faux News and we have a panic on our hands.

Even though SS109/M855 are the 'only' bullets to be banned in the near future, people are showing up at Wally World and buying up whatever .223/5.56 they can lay their hands on. Friends who've called me (not gun nuts like us normal people)(hehe) have asked if they should buy .223 because they heard this or that.....rumors fly.

In my mind you either already own some 62 grain green tip or SS109 NATO ammo because you thought like me, it was cheap plinking ammo. Bought at Big 5 or Walmart, or in bulk from some big box online. You didn't think it was special or valuable until Restrictive Politics by the Gub Mint decided otherwise..

I certainly wouldn't pay a $1 a round for this. In reality, the ammo isn't all that accurate beyond plinking and practice.

Yeah. Sadly, I expect another full swing of the pendulum as we hobbyists are once again victimized and labeled criminals with new laws and restrictions imposed by people who have never had to protect themselves or even fired a gun. Collectively we (as in this Forum) are wonderful, nice, hard working people who raise families, pay taxes, help others in need and enjoy shooting. Yet, they Hate Us.....

I see no problems. Went by Turners in Kearney Mesa last night they had all the usual ammo. Plenty of .45 9mm 556 etc

My local Walmarts are selling out of EVERY cartridge available within a day of their shipments arriving. And we have five Walmarts in town! This is getting ridiculous.

Let this be a lesson to the novice shooters. These silly panics (stampedes) come and go. Be vigilant and buy what you can, when you can and you'll be able to view these events with a smile. The time to mend the sails is before the wind comes up.

I believe Jeff Cooper once said that when you by ammo to go shooting, always buy one box for the range and one box for the bank (your stash). If you get into that habit you'll be a lot better off.

It's part of Obama's economic recovery package. He has done a great job of stimulating the guns and ammo industry.
