Another Reason Why Bullet Buttons Suck

So I'm out shooting the other day and after a few mag changes, the mag catch on my AR type rifle falls to the ground. The small collar and spring that held it on had backed off and went flying off into oblivion. I've never thought to check and see if it was backing off before as it had always seemed to be just fine.

Normal mag releases with their oval button will not back out all on their own. I don't want to put lock-tite on the BB when I go buy a new one and reinstall it, I'll never be able to remove it if I have to service the gun.

If there had been a situation arise where I really needed my rifle and this happened, I would have been totally screwed.

We all know that BBs put law abiding gun owners at a huge disadvantage against a criminal, and this was just another reason why they suck.

I've seen problems where the spring would somehow get into the hole where the bolt travels, rendering the button stuck open and useless. It's not hard to fix -- disassemble it and force the mouth of the spring to be a bit wider -- but it would be catastrophic if it happened during a situation and you suddenly could not load a new mag.

The problem I have with a permanently attached magazine is in the case of an FTF or FTE, I have to manipulate a piece of the firearm with a tool before properly unloading and clearing it. A detachable magazine would be much safer. If only it were legal to be that safe.

Ca laws are what suck not the bullet button. Bullet buttons are actual an ingenious idea to work around gun laws in a legal way.

          .
Sure you can. Use a small dot of blue lock tite or even green and it will be able to be removed with minimal effort.

The chart is wrong. My FAB10 is far better than any magazine locked rifle.

Bullet Button equipped firearms are just "fun" range guns while I'm in oppressed CA.

For HD I have non-BB "Go To" guns. e.g. Glock, pump shotgun, featureless AK/AR, etc.

The Lock-Tite of the old days was varnish. I use finger nail polish. It will stop
the screw from moving. If you need to work on the button a quick twist and the nail polish will crack and allow you to dissemble the parts.

We use this on Pistol grip screws. The color you use is up to you.

Warning!!!!! buy your own if your wife or girlfriend finds you using theirs It could be fatal.

Teflon/plumbers tape solves this issue just FYI. Way better than any loctite in this small thread application.

And believe me, you can hate on the BB all you want, but the alternatives are FAR worse. Let me take you back to the 2005ish days of having to pivot open the upper and TOP FEED 10 rounds into a PINNED IN MAG - close, shot, repeat. The BB was a Godsend, and we almost lost it in 2014 and were looking at top loading again. So, for CA, for now, for options, a BB is awesome. They take that away from us, you will be begging for it back.

No like? Shoot 22lr rifles or go featureless (or move of course).

This the elite want drop test and saftey features on one group of firearm. But on another saftey goes in the wind cause of detachable mags.

^ this. Shoulda tried to buy one after 2000 or so. Oh that's right, we couldn't.

In '99 Californians could still buy off list ARs with no evil features and then do an AW reg before adding evil features.

In 2002, the FAB10 hit the market.

But, you're correct, in 2000, we couldn't legally buy any sort of AR receiver.
