Shatterproof lenses ok for gun range?

    Hello all,

I bought a pair of Foster Grant Ironman sunglasses with shatterproof lenses. Anyone know if they are gtg at the gun range?

No you need at least a welding helmet to be safe

Edit: sorry I couldn't resist lol. I would imagine they should be good to go as long as they protect both your eyes entirely.

This is what I use. The clear has a light amber coating and the shades are neutral gray. I think you would want something that has an OSHA impact resistance rating. These are too cheap and too good to take chances.

          Why wouldn't they be?

One time I forgot my glasses and had to shoot wearing raquetball goggles, no one said anything about it.

Thx guys, just wondering since they don't have the ANSI # on them. I was thinking wiley x, but I'll check HD also.

I don't know of any glasses that will stop a bullet but I'm sure almost any set will save your eyeball during a ricochet or a squib blasting your barrel like Elmer fud.

I forgot who makes them. There are a few companies.

They are like $250 over kill glasses. When they first came out all the gear whores swore by them about being able to take shot to the face a be fine lol

                    Google birdshot proof glasses.

As long as you have something on your face covering your eyes I don't think anyone would say anything.
As far as what is "good enough" to protect YOUR eyes....that's your decision

The range is unlikely to care what you wear, as long as it's something.

I googled the glasses you mentioned and they appear to be shatter resistant, and not ANSI rated. I prefer to only wear ANSI rated safety glasses, or better yet the ones that meet whatever the military rating is. Overkill most likely, but I like being able to see a lot. I use a pair of Wiley X's, a pair of Oakleys, and a pair of Gargoyles.

Gargoyles used to advertise with an in-store display of glasses that were shot by a .22 caliber bullet at 10 feet; bullet did not penetrate. My guess is they used a .22 short or something like that. Impressed me as a kid.

Real safety glasses have minimum thickness requirements are usually made of polycarbonate and have side shields. I just wear my regular prescription polycarbonate glasses.

I buy mine from harbor freight

They fit like a glove and they are cheap! They are perfect for the range and garage especially when working around batteries..... one short and those acid can get into your eyes...
