Does anyone have this "problem"

Take out the internal built-in shelving of the safe, especially the lower or middle portions. It's over-sized crap with nodular spaces that limit available area. That's probably on-purpose, so you have to buy another safe. Go to Home Depot and buy the smaller 5/8" rod clip-rests that they sell of modular shelving. Then buy some PVC piping and foam insulation tubes for steel/copper piping.

Install the above in front to back rows, one rod-rest clip each side, then cut the rods to the width of the inside of your safe. Slide the foam insulation over each PVC tube cut just short of the clip. The foam depresses and acts as a cushion and retainer.

As for the handguns, install an extra full length shelving on top.

For less than $15, you'll be able to fit a whole lot more rifles in your safe, with plenty of room for handguns - and I bet you'll have space to spare.

That's why I love this place! I never thought of that! Going to do that this weekend.

Here's what I did: Bought rifle "socks" in packages of 6 from MidwayUSA. Put all my rifles in socks, packed them in up/down/up/down, front to back in my safe. I got 40 rifles/shotguns into a 24 gun safe.

With optics? That's awesome.

Hmmmm . . . I'm going about it a different way. I bought a Costco "Big Horn" for $759 and love it. It holds about 8 rifles comfortably and could squeeze another couple.

Rather that buy a bigger safe, I'm going to buy a second on from Costco and separate my ammo and handguns from my rifles. This one will be a bit bigger.

Both have electronic locks and both will have the same combo.

I don't like the idea of spending $3-$4K on ONE BIG BOX and having all my toys in one basket.

As stated above I have 2 and don't want a 3rd combination to remember.

I don't discuss those purchases with my wife, never have a and we do just fine.
