    Does anyone have this "problem"

Kind of similar to the "itch" thread below.i have a safe that will not accommodate another rifle or pistol. It's a fairly large safe. So here is my "problem" I have no issue with dropping cash on firearms & ammo but I keep talking myself out of dropping cash on another safe. I know I did not buy 2-3 times bigger then I "thought" I needed but does anybody?
    Anyway that's my situation.....

i have this very same problem right now. i'll have to sell to get another o/u shotgun. no more pistol space unless i get the one that mounts on the door but that may limit how much rifles i can stick at the bottom. i only bought twice what i thought i needed. should've been 3x!

on the flip side, i'm clinging too much on things i don't shoot as often either. i just don't want to sell. not that doj won't know what i have long guns before the 2015 laws, but still.

Yeah it's not the affordability of a safe. I'd rather buy guns & ammo! Lol

I have two with the same condition and I have always advocated buying a safe with 2-3 times the capacity you expect to need. Obviously my math skills suck and I'm in need of replacing 2 or picking up a 3rd unit.

I searched on Craigslist for a few months. One day I found an older 800+Lb Cannon, from a guy who just wanted to get rid of his dad's old safe. 4-gauge body, 3ga. door. 68x30x28. $400

Take out the internal built-in shelving of the safe, especially the lower or middle portions. It's over-sized crap with nodular spaces that limit available area. That's probably on-purpose, so you have to buy another safe. Go to Home Depot and buy the smaller 5/8" rod clip-rests that they sell of modular shelving. Then buy some PVC piping and foam insulation tubes for steel/copper piping.

Install the above in front to back rows, one rod-rest clip each side, then cut the rods to the width of the inside of your safe. Slide the foam insulation over each PVC tube cut just short of the clip. The foam depresses and acts as a cushion and retainer.

As for the handguns, install an extra full length shelving on top.

For less than $15, you'll be able to fit a whole lot more rifles in your safe, with plenty of room for handguns - and I bet you'll have space to spare.

Here's what I did: Bought rifle "socks" in packages of 6 from MidwayUSA. Put all my rifles in socks, packed them in up/down/up/down, front to back in my safe. I got 40 rifles/shotguns into a 24 gun safe.

buy a second safe with no shelves or just a few shelves. I also use the gun socks. the biggest problem is that you will have more room for a few more rifles.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Rule of thumb. Whatever the safes gun capacity claims cut it in 1/2. I think they rate the number of guns it holds by stuffing slim hunting rifles in them.

I've never had a gun safe fit nearly the number they claim. All my rifles are a lot more bulky then just a shotgun.

but them it start all over again.
new safe with lots of room that needs filling.
now full, need new safe, and again and again. it never ends until you die or run out of money
