    Another range trip with newbies

So In about a month, I'm planning a range trip with a group of 12-20 friends. None of them are gun owners, and I've taken about 6 of them shooting before. Hopefully they'll have a good time, and at least be a little educated in the field of firearms and firearms safety.

I've only got two guns I'm bringing up, both long guns. I've got at least one or two guys that know what they're doing with the guns. But as always, I'll be personally overseeing each shooter every time they're on the line.

We're getting a private berm at burro, so that will make things a little more manageable.

Where are you located? This sounds like a job for me to add the 6 different rimfire guns that I have...

Yeah, you should definitely bring more Calgunners (and their guns).

Your instructor-to-student ratio is too high, even if you only have two firearms to teach on.

I would suggest either enlisting help, or breaking down the group into small enough groups that you can better communicate with them and manage the shooting portion. At the very least make up a handout with the first four rules of firearms safety and question everybody on them ahead of the firearms handling portion of your presentation.

Yep, all it takes is one person that thinks they know what they're talking about...

I agree to bring a flyer/email your friends prior with the 4 rules, as well as other safety guidelines to follow. I usually prefer to go 1 on 1 for first timers, since it gives them the opportunity to really learn to shoot with basic fundamentals rather than go out to plink. Usually, for a first range day, I'll go over things such as sight picture, stance, grip, breathing, operation of the firearm, trigger control (what is slack? what is reset? how do you follow through?), as well as overcoming anticipation of recoil.

It'll be a great opportunity to have breakfast/lunch prior to the shoot and go over the rules and talk about experiences to promote safety. It's gonna be quite a lot to handle with that many people.

Good luck and have a safe range day.

Holy crap, that is a little far for me at the moment. Just Gmapped it.

If you were 1/2 way closer I would come and help, if requested.

The turnout might be less than expected. I'll let you guys know if I need some help, thanks for offering!

I generally find that 1 instructor for 2 to 3 people is about right.
