Then, Sir, we will give them the bayonet! (Stonewall Jackson's reply to Colonel B.E. Bee when he reported that the enemy were beating them back. At the first battle of Bull Run, July 1861)

    Sad and tragic.

Even with supervision kids and guns can be a dangerous thing. Fully auto plus a small child. Maybe someone should have seen the potential for that kind of thing to happen. Hindsight is always 20-20 though.

A gun ban coming? For the safety of the children, of course.

My heart goes out to the child and the parents, but what 8 year old should be shooting NFA with more than two or three rounds in the mag and Dad's hand somewhere on the piece?

I don't understand why some individuals get a kick out of seeing someone fire a weapon they aren't qualified to be firing - look at all the "funny" youtube videos involving firearms - some female or kid firing a magnum handgun or big-bore rifle they have no business firing.

I'll admit to laughing my *** off at the guy test-firing the dangerous game rifle indoors and getting knocked on his ***, but bad on me for doing it.

I've said it before, but guns are not toys. You dont give a full-auto uzi to an eight-year old. It's hard enough trying to get full grown adults to employ full auto correctly, let alone a child.

Sad, but it's possible to have an accident with almost any object. People slip on bars of soap or bath mats and the result is the same. You can't be double dead just because it was a firearm.

I wouldnt call this an accident.. It's more like gross negligence.

I'll guarantee that more kids are killed annually falling off their bicycles than are killed with an Uzi..

How else do you expect someone to learn how to use the weapon? It sounds like a Catch-22 to me; you can't use it if you're not qualified to use it, but you can't become qualified to use it unless you use it.

On the other hand, I'll join the chorus here and say that an Uzi of any kind is not an ideal teaching tool for a kid, to say the least.

8 year olds should be shooting bb guns, not uzis!!! I would venture a guess that most of us have gone through the natural progression from small guns to larger. I don't know any 8 year olds that I would trust to control a FA firearm!

This is a case of serious parental negligence!!!!

I think the poster you quoted was referring to the videos of 5'4" girls firing Desert Eagles and hunting rifles without any coaching, and hitting themselves in the face as a result. And I disagree... you can become qualified to fire a weapon without ever picking it up through proper instruction on things such as trigger discipline, proper grip/stance, etc.

I would never hand a gun to someone who was unfamiliar with firearms and allow them to fire it without first giving them some training on how to handle it... let alone film it and laugh as they hurt themselves. That's MTV/Johnny Knoxville trash...
