They have never faced real adversity, and are coddled and sheltered from ideas they have been trained to disagree with. That's why they need safe spaces.

Hell, look at some of the biggest online news outlets that have done away with comments sections over the last few years so their target audience doesn't have to be subjected to different opinions and criticism. CNN, MSNBC, Yahoo and The Hill come to mind right off the bat.
