Real science: study shows that masks don't work

Turns out that masks don't prevent covid

A study earlier this year by the University of Louisville was among many that found that state mask mandates did not help slow the spread of COVID-19. A CDC study in October 2020 indicated that Americans were adhering to mask mandates, but the requirements didn't appear to have slowed or stopped the spread of the coronavirus. And further, it found, mask-wearing has negative effects. The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons has compiled a page of "Mask Facts" showing that the consensus prior to the coronavirus pandemic was that the effectiveness of mask-wearing by the general public in slowing the spread of a virus is unproven, and there's evidence it does more harm than good.

Masks are a visual reminder "that we are in a pandemic". If you can't muster the intended fear, then masks are a symbol of your need to be obedient.

If you don't fear the virus, then you must be made to fear the enforcers of mask wearing. Almost like a man-made religion, where you don't need to fear a vengeful deity, because you will be made to fear vengeful humans claiming to represent the deity. Substitute "scientists" for deities, and Bob's your uncle...

I thought this fact was reported a year or more ago?

I love it when it takes a study to admit the obvious. It reminds me of my work days in software. We knew empirically what the top three biggest problems in our department were, yet management demanded we collect years of metrics to prove it before getting off their duffs.

I don't think this study will change anything.

And those that say they wear a mask to show they care for others and that we're in this together take the cake

Thus has been known for decades.

N95 (not KN95 ear loop garbage) or better properly fitted with eye protection or you are fooling yourself.

Unfortunately the microns of Covid is small enough where I can get through an N 95 only a P 100 stops at 100%

It was just a test to see how well everyone complied.

Oh but our 'scientists' will along shortly to declare "Wear them - it's just common sense!"

I need to add; if masks were necessary and effective, those issuing masking edicts would wear them when indoors, while in crowds of other people. Not just for photo opps.

Apparently being rich and powerful confers some sort of shield against all biological threats, real and imagined; and against any and all laws and edicts.

Nothing shows that mask wearing is about obedience to power, more clearly than the above.

I hear this often - it's just wrong. Stop it.

Virii are not free floating entities. So called airborne viruses are carried aloft by moisture droplets. These droplets can be large like obviously visible spittle from speaking, coughing or sneezing (which even crappy cloth masks can stop fairly well). They are also carried aloft in aerosols which are WAY larger than an individual virus. Aerosols vary in size and persistence and there are complicating factors that contribute to demise or viruses in aerosols. Some virus "die" quickly in aerosols while some persist remarkably long and can travel hundreds of kilometers (see hoof and mouth disease).

Masks/respirators or other means that prevent inhalation of these aerosols are what help prevent transmission. Properly fitted N95 masks work quite well at stopping aerosols.

People that continue to speak about the size of a virus in relation to mask pores sizes are simply showing their ignorance. Don't be ignorant.
