CDC is retiring the CDC 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel because the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized hundreds of other SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic tests, many of which are now higher throughput or can test for more than one illness at a time. At the time CDC deployed the 2019-nCoV Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel, there were no other FDA-authorized methods available within the United States.
CDC is recommending that laboratories that routinely conduct influenza testing as well as COVID-19 testing, such as public health laboratories, consider transitioning to a test that can generate a result for both influenza and SARS-CoV-2, rather than running separate tests for each virus. The CDC Influenza SARS-CoV-2 (Flu SC2) Multiplex Assay, one such assay available to public health laboratories, can simultaneously detect and differentiate SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A, and Influenza B with one test. It is a more resource-efficient way for public health laboratories to meet influenza and SARS-CoV-2 surveillance goals.

After December 31, 2021, CDC will withdraw the request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel, the assay first introduced in February 2020 for detection of SARS-CoV-2 only. CDC is providing this advance notice for clinical laboratories to have adequate time to select and implement one of the many FDA-authorized alternatives.

In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses. Such assays can facilitate continued testing for both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 and can save both time and resources as we head into influenza season. Laboratories and testing sites should validate and verify their selected assay within their facility before beginning clinical testing.
Just because the head liar at the CDC, Walensky (and it has nothing to do with the 5 million in fed grants her hubby just got) had to put up some propaganda to confuse the weak minded, it doesn't change the fact that the above statement from the CDC says specifically that the PCR test can't differentiate between covid and flu, meaning they were counting flu cases as covid unless you can't comprehend basic English. Of course the liars at the CDC want the public to believe this test is accurate, but they still have zero explanation as to why the flu disappeared during the pandemic, and the answer is obvious to even the feeblest of minds.

You can't truly be this ignorant.
That's not what it means. What it means is that you can't test for multiple viruses AT THE SAME TIME. It very clearly explains that other tests are able to give multiple different ones, which especially important as things go 'back to normal' and the flu starts becoming a problem again.
How on earth you get this very basic thing wrong, especially in light of the FDA doc I posted earlier that *clearly* shows negative results on this test when it comes to the influenza virus, is beyond any human understanding.
Last, people have said time and time again 'what happened to the flu.' It was successfully repressed by our efforts to curtail covid. It's almost like ... taking steps to fight a disease that is highly virulent and easily spread tends to also be effective against a less virulent and infectious one.
