Ohhhh wow, yeah good point. I didn't realize you felt this way, nor was I aware of the Russian involvement in trying to deceive me. Here all along I though it was my own government trying to force me to get a shot of experimental medicine with no idea what the one, five, or twenty year side effects might be.
Damn those dirty Russians, thank you for helping me see the light Mike, I am going to get shoot that stuff into my system immediately. I feel good knowing this will save MANY lives.

Your simple question has a deep answer. The good news is that the answer is well reasoned and complete. The bad new is that knowing the answer will not help you change the situation.
What was that line from Pulp Fiction - You can like Elvis and the Beatles, but fundamentally you're either an Elvis Man or A Beatles Man. In the same sense, the world is divisible into Group People and Individual People.
The Individuals make decision based on an analytical process. They may form strong opinions about an idea but, when presented with new information they are not threatened by changing their position because they get to be right in both cases: they made the right choice based on the original data and the right choice based on the new data.
Group People operate on a different paradigm. They form opinions based on a plausible initial hypothesis and an ongoing group narrative. They believe in the group. They do not need to understand the details themselves, they can rely on the group science. For these people, new facts and data do not change their opinions because they still have their hypothesis and their group narrative - facts don't changes their position, they simply modify their narrative. No global warming? Not a problem, just change the name to climate change. In fact, contrary data is a threat because it exposes the flaws in their decision paradigm. As a result, they will always defend their group position and, indeed, demand that others join their group. The larger their group, the more correct they feel in their decisions.
Each of us, to some extent, operates in both group mode and an individual mode. But, ultimately, your either an Elvis Man or a Beatles man.Comment
