    Covid has killed science

    Science by itself is pure

The problem is that science has ceased to matter. It was once a useful tool for humankind, now it is a weapon.

    Today this is the situation:
    1) Kamala Harris claiming that getting vaccinated will end all the mask mandates
    2) The CDC pushing for another mask mandate even for the vaccinated

It's a lot to figure out. (Actually it's not: This is all a heap of lies)

So..... all the detailed discussions here and around the world don't really amount to a hill of beans. Any actual scientific conclusions will be covered up or ignored.

Like global warming and man made climate change, based on lies and made up scientific results
The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

Back in college one professor of mine once said you wanted your worst "enemy" to question your work because, if he couldn't debunk it then it had to be correct. Nowadays, questioning is heresy, opposing views need to be censored, and the "perpetrators" of such behavior punished.

When working on my PhD, I realized that most/all research today is about confirming the approved paradigm.

Research that goes against this view will be resisted and even repressed.

I experienced this personally, as my research inadvertently showed a government funded program was actually counterproductive and not merely ineffective.

Suddenly the private and public organizations that were working with me and my wife (who was working on a separate research topic in the same field)

were told to stop giving us access by the highest government official associated with this industry.

Luckily, we had already saved the data, which were now being denied access to.

Yes, I am intentionally being vague as to the who and the what, and I know it sounds like a bad movie...

Pure science is, at least at the university level, IMHO a myth...

Hmm. Follow the money, as always. Thanks for the inside story.

We were told that the private organization that was receiving the monies and doling it out,

was capable of doing the research internally and we not to be given further access...

It is clear that the press and government have no interest in science. In fact if any one says, "the science is settled" don't listen, they are a fool or a liar. . Also, "the science"... real scientists never say that. Scientists speak of "data".

As pointed out the scientific method requires constant testing of any hypothesis. If it stands up to repeated reproducible testing is become a theory. One step above is a "Law". That almost never happens because "law" requires mathematical proof. Laws are irrefutable.

Covid policy has little objective supporting evidence. The vast majority is confirmation bias. For instance we have known mask are useless since 1919. Notice how they never provide any evidence to back up the idea that masks are useful?

For "the science" to be settled would require the idea to be elevated to the level of "law". That can not happen with covid, or any other research into biological matters.

They know all of this. They don't care because by spewing lies they can seize power and control. They understand that the vast majority are clueless on these matters. The press is now the propaganda wing of the DNC. Therefore they can gaslight the people. People believe it because they hear the same thing most places. They then accept being controlled.

I too was part of situations where politicians seized data. One instance had to do pending legislation. When the data requested did not support the proposed legislation the data was buried. The legislation was passed with full knowledge that it was based on a lie.

Even the vaunted 'Lancet' journal has resorted to spreading Fake News. Science is now truly dead.

'Science is not supposed to be about intimidating, or abusing, or censoring data ... There is never supposed to be 'an accepted view' of science.'

                      That is an excellent observation.

I've had a lot of fun working with a younger group of engineers lately who aren't used to blunt, lively criticism. I have to keep reminding them to stick up for themselves and commit to their work, and not to worry about even a heated design discussion -- because it leads to a better product. Or, at least, it does so long as all sides are professional, objective, and willing to change their own views when faced with superior evidence. They are getting it. They just haven't been exposed to this mindset.

Sadly, groupthink is everywhere these days. Here, too.

You can't kill science. The Inquisition tried. So did the Soviets and the CCP. Big Tech is taking a swing at it these days, and it's a good try, but it will fail. At the end of the day, nature doesn't care whether you rationalize your conclusions or not.

ASR is right, true science can never be destroyed.

But it's essentially unused and ignored.

Years from now someone will rediscover it...
