When I was a kid in the 50's, some parents did this for chicken pox with their kids during summer so they wouldn't get it during school.

I remember my mother telling me about this. When I got the pox as a kid, she made me stay in close proximity to my bother so we could both have it at roughly the same time and then be done with it.
