Covid crashing in LA county

New cases have gone from 22k/day on Jan 4 to around 6k now. The hospitals are starting to trend down with 8k on Jan 5 to 6k now, but if this follows the reduction in cases they will be emptying out over the next few weeks.

I think it is due to herd immunity. The documented cases are over 10% of the population. A lot more got it, but never got tested. I'm thinking it is probably 40% or even 50%. Who knows, maybe more.

It may be more or less over. Well at least in LA county where it has spread like crazy.

Half a million people gathered in DC just days ago, yet no super spreader spike. What gives? Shouldn't we be seeing a huge uptick in cases right now due to that large super spreader event?

Also, why have half a dozen Democrat govs and mayors already begun talking about lifting restrictions?

Cuomo said this in early January followed by Lightfoot.

Then Pritzker and Whitmer.

Then Newsom.

Look at the chart here. The 7 day case average shot up between late November and just before Christmas. Then it dips a bit in what I think many would call the holiday lag, then we see another peak around Jan 15 and then a dramtic decline.

So if the 7 day average was lagged between Christmas and the beginning of the new year should we not have seen another massive spike in cases due to the Christmas and New Years celebrations and family gatherings? Does it not seem odd that those two event's didn't produce higher highs in the 7 day case average if in fact that's due to a holiday gathering spike?

If you look at other states many did not have a holiday spike. How is that possible?

Is the reporting system real time or is there a delay? IF there is a delay to compile the data it will always look like the recent past has a case slow down. I don't know, just asking.

Also if they are now using fewer replications on the PCR test the number of positives will plummet.
