    Covid Survivors, over 7.8 Billion!

Over 7.8 BILLION people survived covid today.

Live world statistics on population, government and economics, society and media, environment, food, water, energy and health. Interesting statistics with world population clock, forest loss this year, carbon dioxide co2 emission, world hunger data, energy consumed, and a lot more

Just thought I’d share some good news for a change.
That's actually not that good of news. I wouldn't brag about it either.

The facts remain that a majority of folks that have survived/recovered covid-19 will have months to years of recovery if any at all. We have already seen studies of long term heart damage and CKD. That's not something I would be happy about. Chronic Kidney Disease is forever. There is no magic pill or cure. You do realize that right? Chronic heart issues long term is not something I want. Liver damage isn't something I want either but you're ok with it? Ok cool.

Non medical folks keep living in a fantasy land and that's ok. We are all in this together.

7.8 Billion is a Very large number. That they have survived is in fact good news.

There are plenty of doom and gloom threads. Go post there.

I don't know about covid causing permanent damage in majority. that's pretty broadly sweeping and its hard to tell any of that in the short term anyway. besides, how would you know unless you took baseline measurements before covid? I don't know what my current lung capacity is, for example. If I lost 5% I'd certainly feel it but I wouldn't know for sure.

but it is probably safe to say that if you have any kind of lung scarring at all, it's permanent. lung scarring never heals, and that is true whether its from covid or from asbestos. likewise, if you've had fevers over and over, over weeks on end like some people I know have had, I wouldn't be surprised that there weren't lifelong consequences. of course, we get lifelong lasting injuries all the time. even a broken bone that heals completely is never quite the same afterwards. plenty of guys here can probably attest to that, i know I can.

so to what degree it happens, or at what frequency.. its hard to say right now. but the evidence does indeed point to significant risks of lasting injury, especially in the more serious cases. just checked in with my assistant this morning. her father is still on supplemental o2 nearly a month after he got sick. incidentally he was never considered sick enough to go to even icu, just regular hospital bed. to the doctors he is considered fully recovered but he feels he still needs the o2. not sure if hes using it all day or at night like a cpap.

It's a virus. Like most viruses, it hurts some people. Some have permanent damage. But it's a very small % of the population. Most of which have severe health issues already. Most of which are self induced.

Overeating. Poor eating. No exercise. Smoking. Drinking too much. Driving too fast or while drunk/distracted. Etc. Etc. Why didn't we close the world to save the 10's of Millions that are killing themselves every year?

Anyway. This is supposed to be a happy thread. Congrats to the Billions of survivors!
