Great image. Is this updated periodically?
If so, is there a link?

(Hat tip to Karen Siegemund) What many journalists are failing to include in their stories, and especially their headlines, is perspective--the number of cases relative to the population. That doesn't make it less serious for the individual patients, but it certainly should be reported in the interest of reducing dangerous panic and destructive fear, and for the purpose of evaluating policy options.

Data comes from the California Department of Public Health as of July 21st.

7.5 dots represent total hospital beds in the state
Of that 1 dot is ICU.

Our medical system can handle it. We can set up the covid tents again and maybe this time get a few patients.

Perspective is important and entirely lacking in all news reports. Won’t lessen the virus impact for those that get it but lessens the fear of if you will get it, and how bad it may be. Fear is almost as bad as the virus itself.

Question, would the fact that some people have been tested multiple times (negative) change this? I think it would make the green dots actually less. Thoughts?

Nope, apparently these medical experts here will just pull a few thousand ICU nurses and specialty Doctors and cleaning staff etc out of their posterior to staff said tents
Meanwhile the existing housekeeping staff are already too thin from those staying home who are making more on unemployment eating ice cream all day then working their jobs.
              The struggle is real here.
What isn't being discussed which is more logical than willfully spreading this virus around for the sake of whatever is that with our months of data we have now, why are we doing blanket shut downs when instead we could be leaving open the businesses to run with precautions who have proved to not be spreaders, and clamp down on the activities which have proven to spread the virus the most? Seems like a win-win to keep most businesses open that way and keep the virus down as much as possible. I have yet to hear or see that even mentioned from either side in this state from representatives or heaven forbid, the governor.

Your statement relies on a faulty assumption: That 'spread' implies an impediment to normal life. It doesn't - just like the common cold & Flu are accepted as part of the winter season.

Paid professionals. They went to school to become doctors & nurses. They are well compensated. They enjoy the blood, poop, machines, the stress, being 'on call', being worshipped by the media. I'm grateful they're there, but OTOH I'll never feel sorry for them. (Disclosure: Mom is a nurse, so I know all about the medical life)

Agreed. This is incompetence from both fed and state. In this case, more so state since they've had months to realize that the fed isn't going to be offering guidelines (CDC's guidelines got quashed and then heavily redacted). There should be clear guidelines set up across the state and the same health inspectors that look for roaches and potable water should be trained to do covid19 compliance inspections. that way business can open, customers can feel like there someone to hold those business accountable, and so forth. as far as I know, this isn't really happening.

As for "we'll just set up tents" I don't think a lot of people understand just how many people are involved with running a proper infectious disease unit. not to mention equipment. we still barely have enough ppe for the current level of medical staff (and last I read, places are still rationing).
