It matters cause it lends support to opening up. If it's been here since Dec, then the quarantine was mostly useless and tanking the economy was unnecessary, because the virus was firmly entrenched already.

The mitigation measures aren't to stop the virus from getting established in the population, that's what international travel restrictions are for. The mitigation measures are to stop an already established outbreak from accelerating beyond our means to treat those who become seriously ill and eventually to slow the infection rate below sustainable levels.

How long it takes the initiation phase of a new outbreak to ramp into a meaningful infection rate has no bearing on whether or not mitigation becomes necessary to stop its acceleration phase.

Well I hope they use it as a reason to open sooner ( the way I see it as an opener) and not just add the deaths to the death toll total...Supporting the closers.

Yes. What will the data be used for? Pure academia? Or to make the case to wait for a vaccine?

If it shows there were more deaths than we thought...does that mean we must seriously look at extending sip????

That same information would also seem to prove that many people had it that didn't get sick or die as well... And that information could show that it's less deadly than we thought and that should tell us we can relax the shutdown..

But they can't measure how many may have had it...Only those who died from it...

They should also examine all the "flu" cases. If they were actually covid then flu tests should show "Flu-like symptoms" yet test negative.

I was sick as a dog in early December and a friend had pneumonia.

While that is true, there are a LOT of viruses that hit like the flu yet have a negative flu test. Every year we see people who went to the ER with symptoms that fit the flu and test negative, yet they are still sick as f.

Coxsackie can hit that way as can the run of the mill "cold" viruses for someone with a high enough initial exposure/immune system which overreacts, etc.

I don't know how many of these they can adequately back trace unless there are still blood samples from any autopsies, etc. It is still pretty likely that this thing was here since December or so. We had more than the usual "flu with a negative flu test" and viruses lasting a month, especially with an apparent recovery then relapse.

I think you guys are missing the obvious intent of why they are looking back.
They are going to revise a ridiculous number like 25000 new Coronavirus deaths.

You don't really expect anything good to be done by California?
Their intent is financial and political and we already know what they plan to do.

That is exactly why they are looking at deaths only.. To heighten the fright level in the gullible even more... Still won't stop the eventual public pressure to open.

This would not surprise me. California is failing financially, through decades of mismanagement by Dems. I will not be surprise at all if they do everything they can to keep the economy shut down and then beg for trillions in federal "Covid-19" bailout to cover their mismanagement of the past several decades.
