Remington 870 express

I have had my 870 for 12 years now, great gun but now it's acting up. I can rack un spent shells all day but the moment I fire it refuses to pump and eject spent shell.
any suggestions or causes?
Yes it is cleaned meticulously and no it's not due to any particular shell mfg.

you may need to super clean or hone the portion of the barrel and action that makes contact with the shells.

I use the cheapest crap out there to test my custom builds. Winchester Universal Blulk pact mess. I do this because if my build will extract this mess it will extract anything. But this stuff is so bad that after a box or so the chamber is so fouled and those crap metal based swell from the heat and will stick.

Yours is not a new gun and has worked for 12years so ignore the Remington Haters that will post in and the little boys who simply post in about get a Mossberg or this or that.

Resolve the problem by cleaning/Polishing the chamber and not using that crap target stuff as much.

Have you thought about upgrading your extractor to the Non-Mim one? I have heard good things about this upgrade.

I was having the same problem but with Federal I bought a new extractor from Brownells and that solved the problem. My 870 is around the same age as the OP's 870 I can shoot any cheap shot shells now.

The extractor is not the issue. It is the base of the shell swelling and sticking. A solid steel extractor and the MIM is the exact same part but manufactured differently so they work exactly the same. In fact, the MIM process was so perfect that Remington found a way to make the solid steel one to very close MIM Extractor Specification and these have been being shipped for about 6 months. Of course if just want to spend the $16.95 on a new part to replace a perfectly good part there is nothing wrong with that.

If you look at the below picture you will see the 3rd from the right is the old solid steel. The 2nd from the right is the MIM and the 1st in line is the new solid steel that after years of trying Remington has finally made it very close specifications of the MIM. And for anyone curious the last in line is for the 11-87.

Also, since this comes up every time MIM parts are mentioned. There are other MIM parts in every 870 including your Wingmaster and Police and they can not be changed out, why? Because they only make those parts in MIM

It is possible that the guy that bought a new extractor for an old gun simply had an issue with it, however, I would have to see his old one as I have never seen a MIM extractor fail or even become dull. But there are first for everything.
