You are doing it right. The most important thing with shotguns is fit. There is no need to spend 5-8K on a shotgun you are going to use for trap. Field guns for the win!

For your once-in-a-while clay shooter that's fine, but if you get serious and competitive then you'll learn to appreciate a higher-end gun. It's like car people - a Corolla is fine but a Supra is more enjoyable.
