Benelli Over/Under...

$2500! No way. I've spent much more than that on shotguns but these guns are long proven.

Dude that is just the msrp... My Ethos had a $1999 msrp and I got it for $1599 brand new two months after it was released so I would expect the actual market price to be around $2000 while they are being introduced and expect it to drop maybe a couple hundred lower in a year or so.

Im not very knowledgeable on the over/under market but at 6.5 pounds that is the same weight as my ethos and I can vouch for the progressive comfort stock, it works. I have a benelli sport ii and the ethos both in 12 gauge and the ethos is almost a pound lighter and recoils about 10-15% less than the sport ii. If this new O/U swings like the ethos (nearly identical weight) then I can say I am interested but if I am spending around 2k on a third benelli it would be the performance shop super sport in 20 gauge not a third 12 gauge(unless its an m2 tactical but they are around one grand). But I like it, I am excieted to see which of my shooting buddies picks it up so I can see how it is first hand before making any real judgement calls.

Obviously, but that's still a lot of money to spend on a gun you aren't sure about, and once taxes and fees are tacked on you're getting closer to MSRP. Benelli isn't known to have junky guns but they aren't known for making quality double guns for decades, either. Only time will tell but until then I'll let others roll the dice with their money. And don't try compare it to the swing of an auto; double guns balance completely differently.

The new Benelli 828U O/U is exactly what my wife is looking for -- Adjustable fit, relatively lightweight, recoil reduction, Benelli quality, and it looks rather nice especially in its AA Grade Satin Walnut Engraved Nickel trim.

The price is an ouch, but Benelli's are never cheap... it is in our have-list this year.

I want to know more about the aluminum receiver. What alloy? Is it forged, casted, or extruded? Are the wear points bushed or sleeved? Judging by the weight I would assume not.

Benelli is a great brand, with lots of technology incorporated, but I would have preferred a stainless steel receiver like the defunct Ruger Red Label.

I'm surprised that they decided to go with the gap between the two barrels. As an owner of the cheap-as-dirt Mossberg/Maverick O/U (which also has a gap between the barrels), I was under the impression that that was a cheap feature. Hm.

No, those "split" barrel configurations have been used on some of the higher end competition shotguns for decades. I've seen them on a lot of high end shotguns. Skeet, sporting clays and trap guns like Blaser, Kolar, Krieghoff, Winchester etc all have featured split/floating barrel configuration on some models.

I think the primary function is weight saving and that the barrels will cool down quicker and that there is less distortion caused by the heat transfer from one barrel to the other...primarily designed to reduce weight and minimalize any effects of heat distortion in the metal.

Not a bad looking shootin iron. I've certainly seen worse in the "new and improved" category (ala Cynergy and others).

$2500 MSRP isn't shocking by any means.

Personally, I like aluminum in autos and steel in breech loaders for a between-the-hands balance, but........

I have a circa 60's (Garcia era) Beretta with the "floating" barrels. I know I've seen it on K-guns too.
