    Mossberg JM Pro

What's the consensus on the Mossberg JM Pro Series as a HD gun? A friend has one that he speaks highly of and the few times I've shot with him shooting clays and some buckshot & slugs, the gun has functioned almost flawlessly. Big 5 is doing 15% off one firearm thru Dec 7th so I can get a 24" 10-shot JMPro for $602 or $680 OTD.

from what I read it's been hit or miss. for that price I'd go with a stoeger m3000. it's based on the inertia system of a Benelli m2, and I believe stoeger is a subsidiary of benelli. someone recently posted they outfitted the stoeger with an extended mag tube, bolt release, extended safety and did some DIY polishing and clean up and maybe a couple other things and was OTD ~ $650.

Go for the jm pro, clean gun first, it will run great. If it's just home defense get the 930spx, great gun just shorter. But the jm is a better value and more flexible.

A little long for a HD gun but as long as it goes bang it will work.

A buddy of mine bought one the same time I bought my Remington Versamax. He uses his for 3-gun and has had some feeding issues when fully loaded with shells.

For home defense I really like my Remy 870 Tactical with a Magpul stock. Easy to handle and rack and no feeding issues.

Not mine but just like this:

Older JM's had some feeding issues especially with bird shot. Lightly polishing the piston housing with Mother's Mag Wheel polish and 12g mop will make the action smooth as butta so cycling will never be an issue. 22/24" for HD is very long even when short stocking, so adding a Mossberg 500/590 with an 18" barrel would be a good idea. The only down side to the JM/930 is if your bolt is forward and you hit the bolt release accidentally you'll partially load a round onto the elevator which will cause a hard malfunction. Although its unlikely you'll hit it by accident under pressure/time is life situation it can happen,so train on how to clear it. Avoid using a pistol grip on any Mossberg since it makes it difficult to use the safety and to operate the slide release.

She won't be the first weapon I grab for inside the house use - most likely that'll be my M&P 9 with TLR-1 S. The JM will sure be good to have with that 10 round capacity if ever the SHTF in a big way though.

As Mbiker states clean the gun 1st thoroughly then lube before you fire it. Also Jerry Miculek has a great video on breaking it down & cleaning. I highly recommend watching it on the tube

Will definitely do a through strip, clean & inspection first. My buddie's JM came with a mangled mag tube spring so s**t happens. Would you know where I can buy a short Picatinny rail section to use on the receiver top for mounting a Red Dot like a Bushnell TRS-25?

The Mossberg 930 Scope Mount provides an easy way to mount a tactical scope to your Mossberg 930 shotgun.

A little late on the topic. It seems to be hit or miss from what I've read, but mine 24" JM pro has been nothing but awesome so far. So far, mine has about 100 birdshots, 1 1/8 oz 7.5 shot from Winchester and Herter, no failure of any kind.

I did completely striped the JM, degreased with IPA (use whatever cleaner you like) and froglubed (use whatever lube you prefer) the entire thing. The short stroke piston also tamed the recoil from high brass OO buck.

Wish you hit rather than miss, and enjoy your Christmas toy.

They may look cool but I'm not a fan of pistol grips.
