    870 Police Magnum?

    hi everyone...

I'm in the market for another shotgun and while I was at a lgs, they have an 870 police magnum with 2 shot extension and side saddle for $300..

would it be a better buy than the newer 870's? cause my first one fell apart and it was replaced with a brand new one.

    thanks.

Since it is used you should base the purchase on your knowledge of the weapon and knowing what you are looking at when you inspect it and the shops reputation to stand by it unless of course it is being sold as is.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

Police shotguns get carried a lot and shot very little. I'd inspect it for any obvious defects, then buy it if it seems sound. Whenever I have bought a used shotgun I just by habit replace the magazine spring and follower. For $300 it is about 1/2 the price of a new 870P.

Older Police 870 is the way to go, all forged parts, no MIM parts, made to work 100%, no cutting corners

$300 for a used Police Magnum is a great deal if it's checks out condition-wise. $300 is up to about $50 or so cheaper than a new run-of-the-mill 870 Express model. What kind of side saddle is on it? If it's a Mesa Tactical then there is about $60 or so in that alone.

an 870P in excellent condition is well worth $300.00, and then some.

well. the first one they showed me had a ghost ring sight but the bead was broken off and it show signed for wear.. the second one he brought out was the one i would like to purchase. it had signs of wear but the action was smooth like butter.

looks like I'm going back tomorrow then, cause is hard to find a police magnum used for sale nowdays, every where i looked is sold out. the only downside though, the stock and foregrip is painted yellow.. is that something common?

I would say it's not all too uncommon. I've seen trade-in 870's with blue and red painted furniture. I'm sure the LE peeps around here can chime in as to why they are sprayed that way.

You can find replacement used standard synthetic furniture sets for cheap though so I wouldn't really worry about it.

Usually the painted stocks are dedicated less lethal shotguns....rubber rounds or super socks. Those are shot a lot less than the regular 870's issued to officers. Good luck!

Are you talking about River City Gun exchange? I was there a couple months ago and looked at a yellow 870p trade in. I ended up buying a new 870 tactical express.

Hell of a shotgun!!! New wood for the 870 will be easy to get because so many people put on the black stuff.

I have 3 of them and they are all great.

Our bean bag guns are all spray painted orange. I've seen some shops do theirs yellow. Remington actually makes an 870P with orange stocks from the factory and if anybody else is interested you can search online. I say this just because they typically sell for pretty cheap as nobody wants the blaze orange stock. I last saw a decent quantity of them at Summit Gunbroker but they're all gone now.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

well, i called them.. with the paper work + tax.. I be looking at almost $400 out the door for it. i don't know, does that seem kind of steep for it? cause most places i seen is around $199-$269 for it.. and the side saddle is made by tac star.. If it was an mesa tactical, i don't mind paying a little more for it.
