Shot size

Curious, what shot size do you guys use for skeet/trap/sporting clays?

I personally have had good success with 9 shot for skeet and 7 1/2 for trap

Number 9 shot always in skeet and number 8 for trap unless on the handicap stations, some shooters prefer 7 1/2. You have more shot count in the higher numbers but you sacrifice velocity beyond 25 to 35 yards so its a trade off. Skeet shooting distance is measured in feet...sometimes 15 feet and less at station 8 and no more than 28 to 65 feet more or less on the other stations. (No, I didn't measure the distance, trolls...just an approximation)

Yep 9 for skeet and 8 for trap I don't shoot much handicap trap so 8's are fine for me.

Save the money, 7 1/2 or 8 are what go on sale and put the savings into paying for targets. In 1 or 1 1/8 loads its not worth the extra money for 9's.

9's for Skeet comes from International Skeet rules where you have to shoot 24gram loads, just over 3/4 oz, more pellets does make a bigger difference

He's right I reload so can change shot as needed.

#8 has worked for me from 16yds to 27yds & doubles too

# 7.5 shot has worked fine too. I bet I could shoot 1000 targets with each and not be off by more than 2 targets.

I like 9's for skeet and 8's for trap.

Skeet I'm shooting 3/4oz in 20g. Certainly want 9's with the reduced payload.

Lately, I've been using 1oz #8 shot for everything, it works just fine for me.
For Skeet I would prefer 1-1/8oz #9 shot, but it's harder to find around here and costs more.
Skeet shots are closer, the center stake is 21yds from the stations, so your shots will be 63' more or less depending where you pull the trigger.
Trap starts at 16yds, so shots are usually 30yds or more, larger shot is better ...

I use both #7.5 and #8 shots for trap, it mostly depends of if they're available or not. I used to use #7.5 exclusively but I've been favoring #8 recently.

for sporting clays 1oz #8 or #7.5 @1200fps

I have a random mixture of 7.5 and 8, with velocities ranging from 1150 through 1350... that must be why I can't break 25 in a row. :-)
