congrats. I've been shooting trap for only a couple months. have been slowly moving up my average. just have to not keep thinking of current hits, and hypothetical best score for the round if I don't miss anymore and just take one shot at a time. hopefully I'll join the club like you soon. congrats again and great shooting.

            Thanks.

If you would allow a small recommendation, I will suggest hiring a good trap shooting coach to help you. I say this from personal experience. For a long time, I was only so-so at trap shooting because I took the DIY route, you know, watching youtube videos, reading forums and then shooting on the trap field. Luckily for me, and because I've always been friendly with my fellow shooters at the range, one regular there came by when I was shooting one day and gave me some free coaching.

              bigbearbear,
              Congratulations on your first 25!!!
I'm just in my first 3 months at trap and hit a 22 as my best; can't wait for my first 25, and yes I did take lessons from a professional. I think it would be hard to "try it on your own"!

                Congrats!!!

I run the same gun, but I shoot skeet once in a while. My best so far is only a 23. Last time out I did get to shoot doubles from every station in wind that was 20-50 mph. I had to get that high bird fast as it was hitting the ground before it got to the low house, due to the wind. I did Calguns skeet classes with Coach Z. It was well worth the money. I have been shooting 3 gun with the Super Sport................yeah it gets some looks and it sucks that the mag tube can't be extended, but I was into shooting hand thrown clays when I got it.

                Keep up the good shooting!

                  Well done!

I gotta get back into the clays! It's been too long.

I've considered this. I asked one of the ROs about their trap/shotgun clinic. he said if you're already coming out to shoot he'd skip the class as their class is a lot of classroom stuff. I know that's not the same as instruction, but that's one reason why I've put it off. that specific RO was good about giving pointers so that was also another reason why I put off the instruction. but he hasn't been around lately, but my scores have gradually improved. I'll start looking into it though.

You live in Santa Clara country and NOT shooting clays?
You're wasting the ranges man, we have quite a few close by:
                        - Sunnyvale Rod & Gun: Trap and 5 Stand.
                        - Los Altos Rod & Gun: Tap and Manual Trap.
                        - Coyote Valley Sporting Clays: Skeet, Trap, Sporting Clays and 5 Stand.
                        - Metcalf Sports Field Park: Trap and Skeet.

Yeah, I was leading the squad and at station 3 I was thinking "this might be the round....", by station 4 I was getting pretty optimistic and by station 5 I could hardly keep my heart from pounding too much. What a rush!!

that's what I think screws me up. I keep anticipating what my best possible score is and think about my hits are instead of keeping my mind clear.

Oh yeah, I start thinking about numbers and I'm toast. They'll come easier now. My first in competition was back in March, and I couldn't tell you how many I've run since then. I'm still working on my 50. I managed to shoot a 98 in cap a couple of weeks ago, and still missed the 50: 49-49, with another one in singles the day before. I was counting in my head, screwed me all up.
