    Changing Barrels on an O/U

Can you buy a used Beretta 686 with 28" barrels and then buy 32" barrels for it?

Yes, a set of barrels are gonna be expensive. Have the barrels fitted to the receiver and not the other way around .....

Agree with previous answers. I would add that, basically, each double shotgun has to be handfitted to the receiver so that the barrels will hit what you're aiming at. Unlike the handguns, rifles, and shotguns that you're probably familiar with, where you can just replace one part with another, these shotguns are built the old fashioned way. That's why they're so pricey compared to pumps and semi autos. Same thing with double rifles, where the fitting is even more involved.

Blaser F3 is built the new fashioned way. All parts interchangeable, no fitting required and competition ready.

Yes, but at a cost much higher than two Beretts 686's

While I did not buy a set of over and under barrels, I did buy a single trap barrel that fit on my Beretta 682 Gold without any fitting or adjustments beyond installation as normal.

Maybe it was a fluke and I got lucky, but when I phoned Cole's Guns, they had the barrel for sale in the first place, they said that sometimes you get lucky and there is no fitting required. In my case they were right.

It fits, ejects and shoots where it's pointed. Sometimes it's just plain crap house luck!

Beretta barrels can be fitted. Browning (or at least Superposed and Citori) can't. Sometimes you get lucky. Some mfg's are designed to be intechanged (like Blaser and Valmet).

I bought a set of 20g barrels for my 12g 682. I tried them prior, but they needed to be fitted. Sent it to Coles and they turned it around quick for a fair price.

For a basic field grade gun the cost will come close to buying a whole gun. But you might find a used set and/or have a reciever which you're attatched to.

I have seen used receivers with Irons for a 686 at $700. Used stocks at $350 complete with adjustable LOP and comb and barrels for around $800.00. If I brought a new 686 then I still will have to make adjusts. So the thought was why not buy used pieces and put it together.
