Picked up a VEPR 12 off atlantic over the weekend as an impulse buy. Hopefully its a good idea.

Anyone have one? Thoughts on it?

I haven't shot mine yet and I've had it for about 2 months already. For the record, my top rail is straight and everything looks pretty nice and good.

I like mine I just had FTE issues with low recoil fiocchi slugs, but still needs to be broken in. That was the only issue I had with ammo but the 1oz slugs I had and buck shot worked flawlessly with factory mags. I don't regret picking one up.

I think you will be happy with the Vepr 12 they are a Rock Star of a shotgun, Yes you need to shoot approx 50 rounds of buck shot through the guns to break them in before using low brass ammo. It is also good to keep the gas tube and gas ports clean the shotgun ammo can foul them.

Can't wait to get mine, ordered it from Atlantic. I'm not really much of a shotgun person but it seemed like a fantastic deal.. and former roommate left me 200+ rounds of 00 buckshot when he moved to Seattle.

Atlantic arms is right that it needs to be broken in. I've had to rack the slide a bunch of times and lube it up to get it to rack smoother and loosen some of the tension. As long as it's not low brass for break in or under powered rounds. I got a few FTE with low recoil fiocchi slugs, but winchestor super x slugs had no problem and I shot about 35 rounds of winchestor flawless as well as 00 buck. I hope Atlantic arms has some deals on vepr 12 factory mags soon. Plus I picked mine up also from Atlantic firearms, can't go wrong with them.

Love my VEPR, but it is crying out for modifications.

Due to budget constraints I have to ignore her, but it is hard.

I am leaning toward a Choas rail so I can mount a laser, light and a foregrip.
Looking also to put some kind of red dot sight.

Probably will look at some kind of sling as well as additional mags. So far I only have the 5 rounder, but I will probably break down and get 4 to 5 10 rounders.

Already have a muzzle break and I modified a recoil pad to fit on the stock.

This is the only shotgun I have fired so far that I dont beat myself up with 3 inch shells. They are stout, but manageble.

I picked up a factory 8rnder when I ordered. Found some SGM 10rnders out there - they seem decent so I might give them a try.

I thought according to the shotgun flow chart, a forgrip on the Vepr 12 is illegal.

I can understand the high load part....I don't understand the buck shot....Why does it matter what size shot is going down the barrel? Won't a a high load of something else be more cost affective for a break in ?

Don't take it too literally. Buckshot usually correlates with high powered loads. I'm sure he actually meant any high powered load such as nitro express, slugs, etc etc etc would suffice. I didn't run 50 rds of buckshot through mine for the break in period. I just ran Remington Nitro express I picked up at Phils Wholesale, cost effective and recoil is very similar if not the same as buckshot.
