So it's 21 smaller pellets instead of 9 big ones?

    that's cool.

So if memory serves (too lazy to look it up) those are .22 caliber balls? Either way, not something I would want coming at me.

        You were board or bored?

More importantly did you discharge the primer with a hammer and burn the powder with a lighter? Gotta go pyro if you're going to do it right.

#4 buck was popular with market hunters for duck back in the 1930s. Both barrels loaded with #4 buck and once a flock lands on the water, you let them have it and gather up the dead and cripples.

I always carry 5 cartridges of this same Rio #4 buckshot with me while hunting. You never know if you'll need something a little harder hitting than #7.5 shot to defend yourself from wild animals or crazy people.

                I believe 4 buck is .26 caliber,and 00buck .32 caliber.

Depending on the brand and shell size, there can be up to 27 of those pellets in a shell.

Winchester XB12L4 adverts 54 pellets, but the few sacrificed to science all had 55. Tends to kick a bit.

22 yards, full choke, half-inch thick oriented strand board. #4 buck is .24 cal. A few always seem to pass through a broadside coyote.

I've been thinking about using #4 Buck instead of #00 Buck for my home defense shotgun to minimize over-penetration. I live in a very populated area where my neighbors and my exterior walls are stucco and in one case only 8ft separation.
What do you guys think of #4 vs #00?

I was reading something written by Paul Howe, I believe it was his book on leadership. He said they used #4 buck shot in Somalia (I believe). If it's good enough for those guys I'm sure it'll work good hear. Besides the less mass of the projectile won't penetrate as much as the heavier 00 will. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

A lot of people use #4.

You really don't have to worry too much about over-penetrating stucco with shot shells.
