I keep all my ammo in ammo cans. I also throw in a desiccant pack in there as well as backup - from beef jerky packs. Here in CA air is very very dry so I'm not too worried about moisture.

You certainly can hunt with it, this came up in another forum.

For the long term emergency ammo, stuff that I store in places that are not climate controlled I use my vac-seal machine. Cut the bags to fit, seal up one end, put the ammo in and the machine sucks all the air out. I then put the individual packs in ammo cans.

The comment about why the OP bought so much was the last comment I expected to see on a forum like this. First off, he bought it cause he wants it and second off what he bought is not a lot of ammo. Guys that think like the OP were not in a panic last year and paying double for anything they could find. They had what they needed because they were farsighted. Also, who has any business telling anyone how much ammo they should have and what kind. Sounds like the anti-gun Mayor Bloomingidiot group kind of stuff.

My Grandfather told me that during the depression you could walk into any Speak Easy in Little Rock and lay a 32/20 round on the bar and get a shot of Wiskey. Three things will be barter when the SHTF, food, fuel and ammo. If you don't have plenty of one of those you will be one without any of it. What do people think? They are going to stand on the corner with gold or silver coins and buy stuff. If you can't eat it, stay warm with it or protect yourself with it then it is worthless. So, have plenty of the most common caliber and gauges of ammo that people will want and trade for and you will have the other things you will need also. Stock up.

In 1973 my dad was reading the Sunday paper and he saw those shells on sale, for $1.88 that was a super great price on those shells so he thought it must have been a misprint and the ad should have been for "dove" loads.

We had to go somewhere that day and had to drive by a MW and even if it was dove load it still was a very good price so we stopped there so he could pick up a few boxes and sure enough the ad was right.

He bought every box they had left (about 2.5 cases)

For that don't know a case is 20 boxes a flat is 10.

Ha! What a joke. This guy honestly judging somebody because they bought a lot of ammo. Get a grip, Doesn't matter if it's buck, .223. .308, some of us all jump on deals when see them, it's prudent thing to do. Just in past year I've jumped on 4 different deals on 1,000 loose cases of XM193 cause good deal and know I will be shooting it all at some point, not like I'm hoarding it for resale- just would rather get it done rather than have to be searching internet for deals off and on for next few years.
And to use the argument of why buck cause so hard on your shotgun, and cause can only practice and not hunt with it???- What reason do you think most of bulk ammo buys in .223/.308 etc are for ??- Practice!!
This has got to be at top 10 fail post of all time and I've seen some ridiculous posts over the years. Mind your own business- seriously? questioning a guy for buying shotgun ammo in bulk?????
Sorry, I never get involved when I see an absurd post but this is one where I just could not resist. Enjoy the ammo OP!

I store all of my ammo in either my 5.56 or 60mm ammo can with some desiccant packs. Within those they are usually still in the original packaging (where applicable). Though I mostly do this so I don't have ammo on every surface and floor in the house and when I go to the range it's all nice and tidy to just grab and go (although very, very heavy).
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

                    About 10 years ago I purchased 4 cases of 1000 rounds .223 PMC(NEW) at a local gun show for $105 a case.
Ammo is VERY easy to take care of. You do not have to water or feed it, just store it in a closet and walk away.

I am sure I could sell a case of .223 for $300 that I paid $105 for. I think that is a pretty good investment.

10 years from now if he still has any 00 buck left it will be worth way more than he paid for it.
!!!! Man I wish we could still get 1000 rounds of .223 for $105!
