How do your store your shotshells?

I just received four cases of buck from Target Sports, if I transfer it all to ammo cans I'd probably need two cans per case.

I don't really feel like buying eight more ammo cans, is it cool to leave it packed in the original box?

I'm storing it in a dry place and don't plan on shooting this stuff anytime soon, it's more of an emergency stash.

Are you a prepper or a firearms trainer? Why would you have that much buck. Cannot hunt with it only practice and kill people.

It was $150 a case with free shipping and I own several shotguns.

My stockpile of 12g consisted of three boxes of slugs before this order.

I already hoard 5.56 and 7.62, why not buckshot too?

All of my ammunition is in the original boxes on a shelf in an environmentally controlled part of the house.

I've shot 20 y/o dove loads stored indoors/closet in original boxes with no problems. You talking longer storage than that? Personal defense ammo should be used up for practice, restocked within 10 years IMO. I had Hot varmint rifle handloads become unreliable/overpressure after 15years storage.

If you bought an entire case of the shell, it'll most likely come packed in a cardboard box that is sized just right for the 250 shells. I keep mine in those cardboard boxes until I need them because they are the most space saving packing. You don't have to baby your shot shells, they're very rugged and so long as you don't keep them in a moist location, they'll be alright.

I sometimes will have loose boxes here and there, mainly buckshots that I have yet to test and pattern. Those I keep in ammo boxes because it is easier to stack them in ammo boxes.

BTW what kind of buckshots are those? Brand? I'm thinking of stocking up some for next month's company shoot.

It is ok to leave it packed in the original boxes in a cool and dry place.

The 40mm cans sound like a good solution, I avoid storing ammo in cardboard boxes. An ammo can is a small investment to keep expensive ammo safe. If I was unlucky enough to have any sort of water leak or roof damage, having the ammo in a can would keep it from being ruined.

That sounds like a very ignorant statement. I hope it was a joke, but I saw no smiley face. I have heard the same argument from liberals trying to limit ammunition purchases. I have cases of .223 and have never killed anyone with any of it. Why does it matter why he has a bunch of buckshot?

My dad gave me a few boxes of these shells a couple of years ago.
They had been his garage for almost 40 years.
I took some hunting and even though I don't think the pheasant and quail I shot liked them too much, I though they worked great.

I was not joking. I think he would be better off with a stock of high base hunting loads in case shtf. How many buck loads could you possibly need. They are not for practice they beat the shxx out of you with recoil and are hard on the firearm. Uncontrollable by most women and youths. I have shells that are 40 years old. Lead duck loads that aren't useful for much but pheasant, chukar. Also comparing .223s with buckshot is a stupid comparison. Have nothing in common. >23 is low recoil fun to shoot, good for ground squirrel and predator control. Buck is useless for that unless the predators are 2 legged.

I'd store it just like it came from the factory. There is zero need to store ammo in ammo cans unless, you just want to.

Well I've been buying loose 5.56 in 1000 rd. boxes and can fit an entire box in one ammo can with a couple of desiccant packs.

I'll look into getting some larger cans.
